Whatever you think of carbon pricing (or any of the other issues facing our country, including pipelines), one's stance on it should never result in the opinion our country is a "joke."

Yes, we can make Canada a better place and we should always strive to. But to call it a "joke" demonstrates deep unseriousness, parochialism, and wanton cynicism.
I think you're taking Canada is a joke to literal. The country is not a joke. The government running the country is a joke. The people, the places, the history/culture/way of life, etc. is all amazing. The way it is run is a different story.

The carbon tax is a joke. It doesn't work. No one is changing the way they live because of it. No tax money is making any impact on global climate change. Even if Canada produced zero emissions it wouldn't matter on a global scale. So were hurting our people now while helping literally no one in the future.

The Canadian people kept Trudeau in power for almost 10 years.

This is a rolling 5 day for the Canada wide number and 9 day rolling for the provincial numbers. I know there was discussion of the validity of an IVR poll so I think the delta since December is what is interesting here rather than the absolute values

When compared to the Dec 18 poll you have some wild shifts

44-19 -18 versus 39-32 -14 today.

Over similar time periods Nanos is unchanged and mainstreet has about half the magnitude of change. Exciting times for polls.
Do people even pay attention to polling any more? Polymarket is better.

Meaning the people that stepped up to challenge him and his party for the leadership of the country are really the biggest jokes of all.

There is so much wrong with this statement (especially the bolded). This is why teaching critical thinking in school is A) my number one goal; and B) should be the goal of every education system.

10 year-olds in classrooms blow an Alberta oil field-sized hole through this specious argument on a regular basis.

Erin O'Toole would have been a fine prime minister.

I agree, actually, and I've never voted conservative in my life.

While knowing nothing more about you than this statement, this may be good proof of my point.

Geographically a fairly small pocket of Canada kept him in power.

Is a democracy where land area votes or people do?

That's fair. But let me put it this way: if Erin O'Toole was the conservative choice this coming election, I'd be far more likely to vote conservative for the first time in my life. The conservative party was on a better path to win my particular vote with O'Toole than they are with Poiliovre.

But it was on a worse path in terms of policy.

In response to question about Trump's gender executive order, Poliviere responds "I'm only aware of two genders".

https://nationalpost.com/news/politi...ders-interview

After making this clearly deliberately provocative statement (which ignores decades of medical evidence and spits in the faces of people who live as transgendered), he has the nerve to say that he doesn't want to talk about gender identity. He only wants to talk about things that are important to Canadians, like the cost of living.

I think this strategy is going to hurt the Conservatives.

It’s going to hurt Canadians more.

He does have policies, and he shares them in sentences his followers can understand. No more than three words. A simple man for simple people.

PP hasn’t announced any real details of his actual policy platform or how he plans to implement it. So far it’s mostly just catch phrases (axe the tax, fix the budget, build the homes and stop the crime ring any bells?). Which to a degree is fair at this point since they’re not the incumbents and an election hasn’t even been called yet. Getting rid of the carbon tax is the only real black and white promise that he has made. If people think any positive economic benefits from that alone are going to have a significant impact our economic woes they need to give their heads a shake.

TORONTO—Pierre Poilievre was lavished with donations at a posh fundraiser Monday night, hosted by billionaires who make their money from private cash-for-care hospitals in the United States—and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh wants to know what he promised them.

“Last week, Pierre Poilievre attended yet another gilded fundraiser in his honour at the mansion of yet another billionaire. Then he promised to lower taxes for people making $1.4 million a year in capital gains,” said Singh.

“Monday night he was at the mansion of people who make their fortune in cash-for-care privatized surgeries. Canadian need to know: what the hell did Pierre Poilievre promise them?”
https://www.ndp.ca/news/reality-chec...res-last-night

Pierre, enemy of the elites, friend of the regular people, hobnobbing with billionaires who can't wait to get their hands on our money while pretending to give us health care. A true man of the people. Imagine being dumb enough to think this guy would represent you? It's Trumpian, to be sure. "I didn't think the leopards would eat my face!"
