One of their main talking points is how Connor's getting fewer calls this year. Could it be that the folks in charge of officiating had heard enough from other teams about how Connor's constantly been grabbing his opponents stick under his arm and falling late in games to draw penalties and they've finally decided not to automatically give him the freebies any more?
I hope they watch him twice as closely now--and while they're at it, Nurse and Perry could stand a bit more attention from the officals as well.

It's not like he was ever owed those calls in the first place considering most were the result of embellishment and/or giving him the benefit of the doubt.
So sure, publish your amateur defense paper on how calls for him have subsided, oiler hacks. All it means is the favor he once enjoyed has whittled away and now he gets more or less the same treatment as every one else in the league. And the average player gets interfered with on a nightly basis without a call for it. That's hockey.
This is the real world. You're owed no favors because of who you are, and if you were helped to a championship then it wouldn't really be earned, would it?
If you're really the second coming then battle through it like the (frankly better) players who won cups did.
####ing baby and his choir of moaners.

If you're interested, a couple of clips from Vancouver's morning show got into first, the crazy Edmonton response to all of this, and then the nachos being thrown on the ice in the game against the Caps that Logan Thompson complained about : (starts at the 6 minute mark and goes for about 10 minutes)
In another hour, they briefly discuss Flames fans for a couple of minutes, and how they think Flames fans are less insane and more chill than Oilers and Canucks fans:
(Starts at the 15:40 mark)

and when you take this excellent post, and overlay it with the behaviour from amazon's series...
it's an entitled spoiled man child with a series of hangers on in the media and in his world.
I wonder if this is the first time when anyone has said "no, you can't do what you want." that would explain a lot actually!

Last year teams averaged being shorthanded 3.02 times per game in the regular season and 2.92 times per game in the playoffs. It's not even one call per series. Maybe two calls over an entire finals run.

It probably is.
He's hockey's Dudley Dursley.
Why people fawn over him is beyond me. Sure, appreciate the hockey plays. But the personality too? No way, man. He's a total brat with no redeeming qualities. Two dirty plays in consecutive games and he believes he's above answering for that.
And then the oilers come out and voice support for that. Biggest loser organization, without question.
Dude isn't my NHL poster boy, that's for sure.
He can't hold a match to the character of a guy like Crosby and the stories coming out of this just reinforce that.

i had the bruins/devils game on earlier and don't recall them ever bringing up "the suspension" at all... unlike flipping over to sportsnet for a second and there they are interviewing mc tantrum
it's actually absurd the amount of attention sportsnet is giving this.... or should i say the amount of attention one of the suspended players is getting

They keep interviewing him about this? Haha… good. The more he goes on about it, the more likely he says something stupid and gets fined.

I don't know why he's even answering the phone. You finally have a chance to get out of Edmonton for a week in January and you want to spend it talking to Sportsnet?

Connor should use the extra time to reflect on his actions…. and maybe look at himself in the mirror...

Ladislav Smid on Edmonton radio this morning talking about the McTempertantrum suspension. Oh it is such a travesty. I can't believe the Flames traded for this idiot. He is bitchy, whiny Oiler through and through.

I've come to realize that I haven't appreciated Crosby enough. I ignored Gretzky's shady gambling debacle but participating in the Trump inaguration clown show is unforgivable and Ovechkin's Putin support is disturbing.
But yes, McDavid is puke. Quite possibly the worst personality of any NHL player, that blank expression on his face is enough to hate him.

I think the funniest part to me is that all of this was entirely preventable.

Fewer penalties? Special attention? It's not like McDavid is even the top scorer in the league this year. He's 5th and would be 6th if Kaprizov hadn't gotten hurt. And he will be passed by Rantanen, no doubt.

I talk to Oiler fans and they're convinced he's saving himself for the playoffs, but in my experience thats not really how it works.
I kind of wonder if the minutes are finally catching up and he's running out of gas.

I also think teams are being more careful about how they play him. It has to be written in big letters on the board before a game against the oilers: “STAY OUT OF THE BOX”. If you do that, the oilers are middling team at best. So they probably clutch and grab a little less and instead try to angle him. That combined with the refs hopefully getting tired of his whining and diving over the years leads to fewer McPowerplays and fewer McPowerplay points.
Oilers complaining about him not getting the calls as much… the proportion of his scoring that is even strength has gone up the last few years. I think that could mean teams playing him passively to avoid getting penalties are sometimes more vulnerable to him 5-on-5 than if they play too aggressive and get called for penalties. So he’s likely getting that benefit that helps his even strength scoring.
All of it is so ridiculous that so many on Sportsnet are trying to make McDavid the victim in all of this. He cross checked a guy in the face.
Chris Johnston was actively arguing on his podcast that McDavid should get special treatment because he’s a superstar. That it’s a business and they should want to have guys like him in the games and the rules should bend towards that.

Special treatment/standards means every accomplishment and title should have an asterisk next to it.
With all due respect, F That.
Crosby won without a right of way 3 times. That's why he's legit an all-time great.
If McDavid wants to be in that company he will have to prove himself under the same conditions.
The game is entertaining enough with an even playing field without skewing it in any way.
Earn your accolades.
