Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman have been crap since they first got beamed up. Star : Trek into Darkness was an abomination that neither of them should have walked away from.
I'm not much of a fan of Berman, either. He leaves DS9 to start up Voyager, and DS9 immediately gets much better. He then runs three seasons of Enterprise, and when he leaves, the fourth season gets much better, so he ends the series in the most humiliating way possible.
JJ Abrams has been running off of Lost goodwill forever. He crapped all over Wars and Trek, which had proven to be bulletproof up to that point.
I actually have very little faith in most Star Trek properties, at this point. And I was a huge fan. I'm even letting SNW simmer for a few seasons before committing. My fandom in Wars has cratered even lower.
I'm just waiting for that one spec of dust in the distance, to coalesce into a shining and beautiful Enterprise, racing into the camera.

Now, a fan on YouTube by the name of NJM PhotoOpens in a new tab has recreated that scene, using only AMT Star Trek model kits, and homemade motion control cameras. And it looks pretty amazing. You can see his recreated “Battle of the Mutara Nebula,” right here:
I put off watching the final season of Lower Decks because I didn’t want it to end. But I forced myself to do it and while I’m happy with the way it ended all of the new characters just showed how much life the show still had. It’s a tragedy that they cancelled it.

Could have soft killed boimler and kept going. Or super promote him out of there or something. It seems like Quaid's enhanced profile is some of the reason it was canned at least.

It certainly went out on top, that's for damn sure. At least someone out there making media still knows what Star Trek is.
If New Worlds ever manages to cross my tv screen again I'll have hope for it as well... but I guess it's trapped in the Delta Q or something...

I really hope they bring Lower Decks back. I just feel that there is still so much potential there.
In a way, I get it. We want to see our heroes succeed in their lives and careers and unless you're Harry Kim, you're going to eventually move up the ladder and then you're not really 'Lower Decks' anymore.
But the idea is still sound! Re-cast your central group, make new lower deckers, maybe even change ships? And then keep going.
I think I threw this idea out a while ago but I know they're making the Starfleet Academy series.
Integrate them.
Take a season of Starfleet Academy, once the kids graduate they get assigned to a ship...then re-start 'Lower Decks' re-join with those kids, animate them and then let Starfleet Academy introduce a new set of characters, rinse and repeat!
You can even re-use the legacy characters in either Officer positions or cameos.
Win/Win/Wins all around.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I dunno. I thought this season was worse than the rest.
Casting is hard. They got a great cast this time around. Or you could end up with Disco.
I dont entirely agree with that. Disco isn't terrible because of the cast, per se, its bad because all of it is bad.
The Writing, IMO, takes top billing. It. Is. Crap.
The Directing is next. And the actors can only make bricks with the clay they're given.
And then I'd probably mention Studio meddling. Its gotta be diverse, its gotta be this its gotta be that, blah, blah, blah....
It tried to be all things to all people instead of having an ethos about what it was about.
Although I do agree with you on casting, that is difficult and Lower Decks hit it out of the park.
What would be a nice result though, would be that maybe they realize that Star Trek can succeed in animation?
I think I'd love an animated DS9 sort of spin-off. New cast, same station, etc. Plus Kai Winn is dead so we wont be bothered by her anymore!
And I mean that in terms of the character, I am aware that the actress Louise Fletcher has also tragically passed away. I mean...RIP! I cant remember ever hating a Star Trek character that much EVER! So that tells you how hard Fletcher absolutely CRUSHED that character. Very talented actress.
She was so, so good. But I hated that character so much.
Just the way she condescendingly pronounced 'My Child' I wanted to punch her in the mouth!
Again...kudos to Fletcher. That is talent. You're supposed to hate her. Thats the job!

The cast was a huge part of my enjoyment of Lower Decks. I recognized so many voices from the L.A. improv scene. There was an episode in the last season that mentioned “soups, stews and chowders”. That’s a reference to Paul F Tompkin’s character Big Chunky Bubbles. You wouldn’t get that unless you listen to Comedy Bang Bang. I like when two of my nerdy interests collide like that.
I'll take your word for it, I couldnt watch it because it was so bad.
It's where a lot of the woke complaints arose from. They'd hire trans people or whatever, and they were terrible, terrible actors. The actors playing Stamets and his partner were just god awful.

Honestly? NOBODY from Lower Decks did a bad job. I couldnt point you to a 'weak link.'

STD just kept compounding their own mistakes. If one thing was bad...it wasnt 'bad enough' we can make it worse...a prequel was a bad idea...magic them into the future...etc.
The only thing STD did right and the only thing I'll give it credit for....is giving us Strange New Worlds and Anson Mount.
That man is a Treasure!

I honestly thought they were all bad actors. Not only Stamets. The actress for Tilly was brutal and hard to watch. I didn't think Sonequa Green did the writers any favors too, she chewed on scenes like a strung out Shatner but the character's writing was also poor so it was a train wreck. Saru... can't tell if that was bad acting or just a terribly boring and dumb character that was written.
I can't point to a good performance. Even an oscar winner made every second on screen painful as she portrayed her role with so much cheese I couldn't even tell it was trek (a show known for being cheesy...)
