Honestly looked like he saw an all-time trolling opportunity, and found it too tempting to resist. It looked like he thought it was hilarious, and has ZERO concern about the social consequences.
EDIT: The other very familiar thing about it, is how strongly normies are reacting. Things like this are harsh reminders of why most people don't want people on the spectrum anywhere near "important" things. Harsh because it is hard to disagree and accept this about oneself.

I've said it before and I will say it again. I can't believe this putz has become the richest man in the world. I liked my Tesla and would always be open to getting another one in the future but after that salute, it's just not going to happen no matter how good of an EV they make. I just can't believe what's going on south of the border. It's really not far off from The Boys parody of America.

I think the simple explanation is the best one. Musk is literally trolling the entire world. He has been for years. DOGE as a US department? DOGE?? Cmon.
This is a rich guy seeing how much he can #### with people. He cannot be held accountable because he is literally too rich for the law.
He's bored. This is fun for him.

I don't think that's a fair interpretation. Drunk on power looks a lot more likely.

Musk is a definite troll. We're talking about the guy who used his multi-billion resources to sell a consumer Flamethrower for use at home that was called "Not-A-Flamethrower".
His image is a money making venture, and its been a huge joke for him for a while.
The guy also has zero experience in government and is totally unqualified for his position.

Well Doge and having the car models that spell "sexy" is the kind of thing that you can roll your eyes at. A Nazi salute and endorsing far-right parties is a whole different level.

Remember when Justin Bieber got big and was in the news all the time for being an ass? Elon reminds me of that, except Justin grew out of it. You give someone with the mind of a teenage boy access to tons of money with little supervision and they act like an ass. And Elon won’t change until he faces some consequences he can’t buy his way out of.

What would his net worth be if Tesla tanked?
Or at least stabilized to what its value realistically should be?

Elon, much like Trump, has created this grey area where you can reasonable claim multiple possibilities are plausible...
- Was he trolling? Possible
- Was he high on drugs? Possible
- Is it cause he's got autism? I hate trying to use this, but possible.
- Is he simply dumb? Possible
- Is he a Nazi? Possible
And, like Trump, this is what makes him dangerous. Do you take it seriously? Do you ignore it cause "that's just Elon"? And Elon will absolutely leverage this grey area to get the craziest #### he wants done, cause he will be able to create enough uncertainty that nothing will be done to stop, change, or moderate him.

At current share price with Musk having 12% of shares, it's $162 billion. But he's leveraged a lot of that in loans for other stuff.
He also owns 43% of Space-X which is thought to be worth $350 billion. It's not publicly traded, so that's a bit more of an estimate.

No I think the guy is legitimately an awkward misfit that managed to capitalize on the dotcom boom and weasel his way into getting filthy rich off US government contracts. Everything he says and does is just so awkward as even the solutes were awkward. If he was a nobody co-worker in our or my office he would still be that awkward weirdo that people would ask "What's up with that guy?". I don't think he's ####ing with anyone as this is what he is and this is what happens when someone like him attains wealth and power. He's a weirdo and a dangerous one at that.

This is what happened after he was booed when Dave Chappelle brought him on stage
https://www.mercurynews.com/2023/11/...elle-show/amp/
Quote:
Elon Musk reportedly suffered a mental breakdown after facing angry boos at Dave Chappelle’s San Francisco show in December 2022, which added to the billionaire’s fears that his reputation as a tech visionary had been damaged by his seemingly chaotic moves in buying and running Twitter, the once iconic social media platform he rebranded as X.
Musk’s mental breakdown is being reported by Ben Mezrich, the author of a new book, “Breaking Twitter,” which covers the billionaire’s haphazard acquisition of X, Insider reported.
“He got to a point where he locked himself in his office, was so upset that the Twitter employees were considering calling a wellness check by the San Francisco police because they thought he was going to self-harm himself,” Mezrich said in an interview Tuesday on CNBC’s “Squawk Box, Insider said

We need to stop making excuses for Elon. It normalizes him.
He is a fascist. It's just simple.
