I dunno if Frank is right, but if the Flames start trading picks for depth players I'm going to be pretty disappointed.

I’ll wait too see what happens before judging anything. It could be made up or it could be Conroy getting some insurance if the Flames trade Andersson. It could also be a young dman they think can pop. Conroy has bought enough leash.

Kurashev listed as one of the players who may have fallen out of favor and might be a trade candidate.
Flawed defensively but plays that coveted C position and would come cheap. Might be worth a flyer?

My first thought was poor Weager. Flames trying to get him another 6/7 dman partner.

Dumba. He’s barely an NHLer anymore, but would good for the room/culture.

Especially when guys like Solovyov, Grushnikov, Kuznetzov, and Poirier are doing so well on the back end, and lots of players lead by Stromgren up front. The young guys have been among the team’s best this year. Getting a filler guy for draft picks would be stupid at this point. The only guys that should be added are potential cap dumps only along with something to take them.

Oh I strongly disagree. Bean is terrible. He is constantly turning pucks over under pressure in the D zone.

I can't see any chance that Conroy would expend assets to shore up the bottom end of our line up, especially during a rebuild. He's not a not a dumbass like Treveling. I'll believe that when I see it.

I'm not surprised at all that we would be looking to add for a run. Just look at last year, we got lucky as hell that our players said no to re signing with us.
We tried to overpay Lindholm, he said no. We tried to overpay Hanifin, he said no. We tried to re sign Kuzmenko at the beginning of this year and thank God that did not get done.
This is not a forward thinking organization whatsoever. I think Conroy has done a solid job with what he's been dealt, but make no mistake, ownership wants playoff games. And Murray Edwards does not want a long rebuild.

It may not be what Frank meant but if Flames acquired a salary dump along with a draft pick and the other team wanted Calgary to send back a draft pick but that pick was later in the draft I would be ok with it.
Say Dumba and a 3rd to Calgary for a 6th as an example.

Another guy that seems to be underperforming is Mattias Macelli, he’s so good but just isn’t producing for Utah. Not sure if they’d trade him and also the Flames don’t need another LW but I’d like to see him find a better home.

The Flames didn't try to re-sign Kuzmenko. Conroy was asked about offering Kuzmenko an extension in the offseason after signing Sharangovich, his response was mostly "we'll see".
The rumored Hanifin deal was at a similar number($7.75 x 8) to what VGK signed him for. IMO it's a fair deal, and he's doing well. He was also 26 at the time having a career season.
The attempt to overpay Lindholm was bad. It happened at the early part of the season, when they still hoped he could find chemistry with Huberdeau. Lindholm was our best forward playing with Toffoli, and a rotating door of wingers in Sutter's last year. He was a number 1C the year before that. It was definitely a mistake, one fueled by most of our core players leaving.
I am willing to bet we're not trading any assets for a depth defenseman, unless we trade at least 2 of Miromanov, Bean, Hanley, and Barrie at the deadline.

Powerplay Quarterback

If they want a 3rd pairing D, then why not just call up Kuznetsov? He’s been a beast for the Wranglers.
A Kuznetsov-Solovyov pairing is likely better than anything the Flames could trade for. And it’s free.

What do you guys think of Colton Sissons? Assuming the Flames are looking to solidify the bottom 6 C position, and a Rooney replacement in particular.
At first glance, he's 31, and slightly overpaid at $2.86M for another season after this one. That's also why I think the acquisition cost would be pretty negligible. He's pretty fast, a right hand shot, and he's good at faceoffs. He struggled this year like most of the Preds, and has a pdo of 950. He has been the first forward over the boards for NSH's PK, that's ranked 6th in the NHL at 82.6%.
I was thinking he could be a Stajan/Ryan type 4th line C for the Flames. He will be overpaid for the job, but similar to Lomberg his contract would expire at the end of next year, and he would address some of the Flames' biggest weaknesses this season.
PS: Hopefully Kerins exceeds expectations in the 4C role, and we don't need to bring in someone like Sissons.

I was thinking about acquiring Sissons earlier this year too. He also played for Huska in Junior.

Always wondered why should give a team something for helping them.
We are doing them a favour and they are paying a 3rd for it for us to take a crappy player and contract. At best they should receive future considerations or a contract back not dollars just an underpaid player we don’t need taking up contract slots.
