"Apparently" the story being pushed by handlers to downplay it. That was a nazi salute(well, two of them), and the people he was sending the message to know exactly what it was. Don't buy into these "explanations".

I don't know, I think it's pretty obvious he was trying to do that. He's basically a 13 year old edgelord. So my guess is he wanted to do something approximating a fascist salute but with enough plausible deniability, sort of like when white supremacists make the "OK" hand gesture. But he messed up and ended up doing it a little too exactly.

And honestly, to me, nazi salutes are a red herring. That isn't why Musk is disqualified to hold any public office. He is disqualified because he is a selfish, greedy, unintelligent narcissist.

Well Aspergers isn't a thing anymore, but my son has what used to be called Aspergers. He hasn't made any nazi salutes by accident OR on purpose.

Whether it's a dog whistle or just lack of any self awareness at all both options are bad.

EDIT: Mind you my son isn't a ketamine brained edgelord so I guess he's not directly comparable
