I actually had Calgary finishing at pick #18 which they would have to give to Montreal. Unless my math is bad that is right on target right now.

Actually at #19 based on winning %.

#10 right now is a team playing at .500. Flames are 5 games above that mark now.

Still, my point was that I didn't think they would be as terrible as most others did.

You had the Flames as a playoff team before the start of the season?

Only 14 picked the Flames to make the playoffs, I suspect a few of the cup win predictors were being facetious.

I picked them to make the playoffs and lose in round 1 or 2. I didn't think Sharangovich and Kuzemnko would be virtual no shows, or that Mantha would be out for the season early on. If those things hadn't happened the Flames are likely comfortably in a playoff spot right now IMO

Ya I did not vote in that but I would have had them bottom 10. Never in a million years did I think Huska would be able to turn Hanley/Bahl into top 4 dmen. I saw two top end dmen and five number 6/7 dmen on this roster. Really thought their backend would kill them this year.

Agreed. I also didn't expect Wolf to be this good this soon.

For everything that has gone wrong like Kuzmenko and Sharangovich we have had a bunch of things go right that we didn’t think would have like guys playing above expectations and Wolf.

Zary and Coronato having an impact as well.

Positive signs to build off but lots of work ahead.

Absolutely.

I expected bottom 10, but I prefaced that Wolf could make the difference if he showed he was for real.

But even then I didn’t expect fighting for a playoff spot.

Wouldn't it/won't it be something if Wolf / Huberdeau / Coronato stories stay on the positive sie, and Sharangovich / Coleman / Rasmum / etc start finding ways to get the puck in the net on a consistent basis. If this scenario plays out, we're in the playoffs.

On January 20th, they’re the second wild card team based 100% on merit, and four points out of 3rd in the division.

Let’s go to playoffs, come on.

Given where this team is, I hate even hearing tank. I think that you have to reward the guys who are here and keep trying to make the playoffs until you don't.

Maybe everyone thought this group of guys was going to fail, but somehow the coaches have gotten these guys to overperform. Let them overperform - even if that means missing the playoffs or going out in the first round.

I think it helps develop our younger players including Wolf. Don't allow a loser mindset to creep in.

So many teams still close together

It will go to the end

Of course top 10 pick is better but can’t complain

The Flames and Panthers have 6 spots difference in picks. I'd rather cheer for the panthers to lose than the Flames.

Never realized it had gotten that close, and the Flames have two games in hand.

I just hope they don't add to the roster outside of that elusive sub 24 top six RHC
