Got an alert that the Jays are interested in Profar. It's not ideal because his potential isn't there (a one time highly ranked prospect), but last year he had good numbers. I don't mind him in LF, but I hope it's not a long term contract.

Jays should get him just for name alone. Jurickson Barthelomeus Profar.
Funny that MLB.com lists him as 3B but he hasn't played it since 2018. Although he had two all world defensive 3B's with Chapman in Oak then Machado in SD on his teams.

Also his HR robbery from Betts in the playoffs last year suggests to me that his OF defense is pretty good.
He's a higher risk/reward guy. He actually had a higher WAR than Santander last season, but that was a career year. If he's a late bloomer type (eg Justin Turner, Jose Bautista) maybe he repeats that. He will be way cheaper than Santander because of the inconsistency.
I like it as a signing - the Jays are going to need some luck to be winners this year - high upside/low cost signings who might keep it together with little term seems like a good place to look for it.
And with Varsho out at the start you could play him CF initially then move him to left and bump Santander to DH when Varsho comes back. Or maybe he really does play 3B...

According to Fangraphs and Statcast Profar is worse defensively in the OF than Santander, I wouldn't play him in CF, according to Statcast Profar has worse range than Santander.
I still like the idea of signing Profar, because he ups the floor of this team. I think they will have to rotate guys like Vlad, Springer, Santander through the DH spot, Profar can provide coverage for all those positions, keeping him in the lineup.

I especially like the idea of Scherzer. If the team isn't in contention they can deal him for a lot. He's a proven winner. That would be an awesome signing.

Good with the Santander signing. Power they needed 2 years ago. 3 years and hes donez probably as well, which is fine. My guess is he got some conditions as the Jays got desperate and there didn't appear to be a lot of competition, certainly not from the big teams.
Scherzer seems like an awesome teammate, not sure how much he has left in the tank with all the injuries, but that would be good too. A winner, which they need more of.
Get Vlad signed. Profafar and Alonzo, why not.

Signing of Santander was a really good step,
They need to continue to fill in the holes, in my view another big bat
Of course, they have to make a decision on Vladdy before the training camp starts,,,
Bo is another item, no way he resigns in my view, what is the plan with him?
It will be a distraction all season, media are going to keep asking

I would have said there was zero chance that Bo would re-sign in Toronto before he showed up trying to get Sasaki to sign in Toronto. Now I would say it’s up to 5%. If they sign Vlad to an extension, that number jumps up pretty dramatically.

Me too. I mean he's not the dominant freak he was 10 years ago... but even at 40 years of age I wager he'd be a real good add for the bottom of the rotation.
Don't really want Profer TBH... wouldn't hate it but it'd just be a big ol' "meh" for me.

Yeah, no idea which Profar we would be getting - but we'd be paying for the 3.6 WAR career year he just had. He has fluctuated between slightly above average to slightly below average his entire career with the exception of last year and 2022. He's too inconsistent

I doubt the bolded is 100% true. He had a better WAR than Santander last year but no way he gets the same money, precisely because he's so inconsistent. He had a great reason in 2022 and signed a 7.5mm 1 year deal for 2023. Then 2023 was crap, but now 2024 he was good again. I think he comes in close to that same 7.5, maybe $10-11MM with the market moving up the last couple of years.
At $15+ with term I wouldn't want him, but I don't think he's getting that anywhere so it doesn't seem like something to worry about. At 10mm x 1 year I'd be interested.

Dunno. Quick scan of his X account doesn't reveal anything silly (mostly stuff that I saw also said by legitimate MLB beat reporters). Seems to have a decent following amongst Jays Fans.
Still seems more likely that he mostly just parrots credentialed reporters and conventional wisdom... I don't trust "insiders" who only do their thing under a Pseudonym. Especially when they could (but don't) get paid for said thing. Can't say for sure as I don't have the patience to go see if he had any legitimate scoops.

He apparently broke some signings before guys like Passan have. So he either does have sources or he's just a good guesser.

I think he broke a signing a few years back....can't quite recall who. Wasn't Springer but I feel like it was around that time.
He gained a following from that but I don't think has broken anything since. I could be wrong.

Little bit of buzz on twitter right now that Alonso to the Jays is close. Nothing official yet, just people "hearing" and who have "sources". We shall see.
