Hell last time that the US blocked beef from here it was massive. That spurred the whole I heart Alberta beef campaign that took right off. People were boycotting places that would not loudly advertise they served Alberta beef. Now though, whatever.

I think that Danielle Smith would've taken any opportunity to rub elbows with Trump. She is unabashedly smitten by the likes of Trump, DeSantis, and others cut form that cloth.
It also aligns very well with the idea of Alberta as exceptional, special, repressed, and being held back by Canada. It is a tried and true political strategy that continues to do well in Alberta, regardless of how true it is or isn't. I totally understand it. But let's not fool ourselves that she was ever going to change Trump's mind.
Like most of what she does, it has more to do with her own ideology than any tangible benefit to Albertans. Of course, now that tariffs seem to be backburnered for now, she'll be patting herself on the back for her little diplomatic trip.

Danielle Smith visits Mar A Lago and meets with Trump.
1 week later, Trump announces that he won't be announcing any tariffs.
Another win for Smith!

In other news the UCP are now playing politics with Jasper. They are throwing a fit and blaming the feds(big surprise) that they won’t let them build housing for the displaced. So what have the UCP offered? Sixty permanent single family homes, that will use up all of the temporary land available for housing.

I hope you all enjoy the taste of selenium...
Coal projects that were about to be approved — or in the process of it before the gov't suspended them after public outcry in 2021 — can now continue the approval process. This was done amid a public hearing for coal exploration on Grassy Mountain last week. The govt order is dated Jan 16 but only made public today.

I actually didn't hate Premier Smith's interview with Adrienne Arsenaul I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it. That's better than she usually does with me.

While meat is a multi-billion dollar export, it is small compared to energy exports. IMO it's better to stick to a simple message using energy as it also has a strategic importance for Trump since his first administration, as well as something that could theoretically affect the entire US economy (at least a little bit).

Did it yesterday, it's been much better. I don't really believe in using the ignore feature. Well, I didn't until these two returned. Nothing of value has been lost. Addition by subtraction. Won't be missed. Ignorance is bliss.

I was interested in what that looked like per capita per province.
New Brunswick is the surprise, along with BC being such a failure. Stop sucking, BC!

New Brunswick is mostly the Irving's. Refine foreign petroleum. Sell it to the US. Irving's rake in the cash, but New Brunswick doesn't.
Dairy is their next biggest I think. Powdered milk, specifically.
