But sadly they're not.

And Kirkland didn't help either.

Kevin Rooney is last on the Flame's at 2.70 xGA60, Kirkland was 2nd last, Duehr and Lomberg are 4th and 5th.

Derek Ryan is a tire fire in Edmonton too ... 2.65 ... but in a different system.

I'm not sure he'd be the answer, though his faceoff prowess would be helpful.
Kirkland has been on the ice for 10 even strength goals for, and 4 against.

Rooney is 7 for and 14 against

That said, this is a move by Edmonton not so much because of Ryan, but because they need roster spots. They are full with Klingberg added.
Nope. Despite what Bingo's numbers say, Rooney has been bad. And the line has been bad while he has been centering it. It wasn't bad with Kirkland

That's the result for sure, but given the sample size and the underlying numbers they don't really add up (and for me eye test)

The story was always overcooked when he was healthy.

I'm pretty sure more games what have played that out.

Can't take away the shoot out move from him though!

I thought he was full marks for his play, personally.

If you're blaming 10-4 over 21 games on luck, well that's a lot of luck.

It was!

He played 179.5 minutes. If you look at the entire league for forwards with 175 minutes of ice time he was ranked 1st in on ice save percentage, and first in on ice PDO.

That's the very definition of luck.

He's also first on the Flames for results vs expected.

It's such a good story, but it was an unsustainable heater.

I know they wouldn't affect the cap. I said ‘CASH’. The move would still have cost money at a time when the team can't fill its building.

And if you think the cost of having Rooney's $1.3M or Duehr's $815k in the AHL would deter them from trying to improve the team, well we disagree. They would have never signed Mantha and Barrie if that were the case.

I don't believe Ryan would have improved the team at all. He's a worse player than Rooney at this point, except for faceoffs. Apparently the Flames (and 30 other teams) agreed.

That's a different conversation. But you were proposing the cost as a reason they wouldn't be interested.

Anyway, it's moo now.

It's all the same conversation: cost vs. benefit. A fourth line with Ryan is getting caved just as badly as a fourth line with Rooney. Instead of getting caved when they lose the faceoff, once or twice a game (on average) they will get caved a few seconds later when the play dies on Ryan's stick, or when a zone exit gets blown because he can't keep up with the play.

Ryan has been bad this year.

I’m talking about the individual numbers for Lomberg, Rooney and Duehr. Kirkland’s sample size is much too small, and Kirkland and Rooney were on the same line anyway. Duehr is the Kirkland replacement.
