One of my friends is a die hard Rangers fan and would be over the moon about that, he hates K. Miller. Says he is a nightmare in his own end.

A lot of the Rangers are highly overrated. Seems like from the skaters, aside from Laf, the true performers are the older veterans. News flash but each year those guys keep getting older and there are no younger guys who are stepping up. Shersterkin is damn good but the team as it stands was a flash in the pan. They gotta cash in on some of those good vets now and go for a quick retool.

I agree.
I hope the Flames are able to find themselves a no-doubt-about-it bonafied 1C. A guy who is top 10 or top 5 in the league at the position. Opposed to another Lindholm type that did well when put in a certain situation but not really elite.

The Rangers have a pretty good cap situation. The Canucks have much less space. So, maybe the Flames could retain some of the salary the Rangers are sending the Canucks? Or maybe the Flames could take a player from the Rangers?

Has there been any info on what stalled or killed the Miller trade to the Rangers?
Who is the best center that the Rangers would likely be willing to trade? Have to believe the Canucks would require a center coming back the other way. I recall the rumour from a few weeks ago that they turned down an offer that included Zibanejad.

It’s the old Burkian ‘need a life jacket, other GMs throw you an anchor’ situation for VAN.
They have a huge problem named JT Miller that they want to get rid of, but he has a NMC and will only waive to go to NYR. So Drury holds all the cards.
I bet it ends up being a terrible return and that’s probably why they want help with cap. It’s like a cap dump trade or something and Canucks are having to eat lots salary. This is glorious.

They are 3 points out of a playoff spot, despite the drama.
Also, they have Shesterkin.
If a trade can right their ship and settle the room down, they are a pretty sure bet to climb back into a playoff spot.

I don't see how the Flames get involved. The Rangers do not have great trade targets for a Miller trade. Both teams are wanting to be competitive now and would be more interested in a hockey trade than acquiring futures.
I assume that the Rangers are trying to swap Zibanejad for Miller and see if both players can get back on track in a new market. The cap hits are similar but Zibanejad is 500K bigger.
Maybe the Canucks are trying for Trocheck? That would free up some cap space to make another move by the deadline.
There is no way the Flames would waste 5-6 salary retention slots to make that better for the Canucks. Aside from Zibanejad, I do not really see a cap dump that the Rangers need to make. Rangers do need to acquire an upgrade on LD though...

Whatever the package is, i believe that Groulx and/or Sykora to be part of it, plus either Zibanejad (full NMC) or Kreider (large list of NT teams...all CDN teams believed to be listed).....but those two guys have to agree to waive.
Not sure that is realistic at this point though and probably part of what happened yesterday.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a deal around Trocheck. I think he would be the top Tocchet tarcet.
As an aside I wonder if Chytil could be a guy that becomes available for a team like the Flames. I think he's slightly less effective now(10G, 8A) after missing most of last season, and has a bit of a high caphit of ~4.5M for 2.5 years. If NYR decide to move on from him, then the Flames should be first in line.

Being a Czech, he would be yoked-adjacent.

that's done, they've made their choice - moving on from Miller.
They would of lost any trade for Petey and a few teams made legitimate offers, Calgary wasn't including Zary.
Vancouver is squeezing right now.
They want Alexis and Schneider. They won't get both unless Vancouver is willing to eat a lot of that contract.
No team is helping Vancouver. Miss Arizona right about now.

Of course but it's a Jimmy special... Sometimes the big offer comes and it's take or leave it. Sometimes you got to say yes... Conroy did with Elias last year, doesn't look like Vancouver did this time around from what I'm told.
