Hockey day in Canada on Sportsnet, probably get the Flames broadcasters for this game. on TV. Country music in house.
Losing Zary seems to take some momentum out of the Flames. Always have to keep your head up against Poposil and Kadri. Flames are fighting for last playoff spot in the West with 15 regulations wins in 44 games. Should be a good battle on the ice. Jets have been outskating a lot of teams, and this could be another one.
What's the over/under on Comrie in net?
Quote:
If Coms starts we need to put up 7 for him.
Quote:
Or at least more than 1 lol
Quote:
Comrie starting? Guess I’ll bet the under on goals scored.
Quote:
Oh Comrie is in net that's a automatic loss go Jets go i guess.
Quote:
Let's hope the team can finally give Comrie a win!
Quote:
Lots against us...Comrie in net, Jets on a 3W streak, playing CGY who is on a L2 streak. Will we beat a lesser opponent for the elusive 4W? GJG!
Quote:
I smell a Comrie W tonight..
Quote:
I have it solved! This had to be a conversation between Comrie and the whole team. Coms: "guys see I'm just as good as helle" Team: "you wanna ####ing bet" Coms: "yeah I'm 3-1-0 with a solid save percentage" Team: "Fine we'll challenge you. You won't win another game unless you get a shutout" Coms: * goes on winless streak* Team: * legitimately scores 1 goal a game in goal support"
Quote:
We shouldn't have to score 4-5 goals a game to win with him in net
Quote:
So if the playoffs were starting today we would be matched up against the Flames. We would be the #1 seed and the Flames the #8 seed. I'd love that matchup.

I know the team has played like #### in front of Comrie a lot this season, but Calgary has had two high danger chances all game, and they both went in. You can't win with that.
Quote:
Quit letting them go from low to high from behind the net, please.
Quote:
ok look, speaking as a comrie defender, I agree he isn’t doing a particularly great job tonight but that being said, I think a lot of the naysayers here have gotten way too used to helle/are now fully taking for granted just how unusually good helle is lol
Quote:
I’m also a little confused that these goals are causing some comments but I also hardly know anything about goaltending so. A few weeks ago Helle got beat by an awful shot in OT and didn’t see anything about how he should have had it etc.
The way Helle plays to he also lets in some stuff that others wouldn’t off tips cause he’s deep in his net but I mean that’s the case for almost every goalie as they all play diff styles.
Quote:
holy ####.
okay. its still 2-0. but holy ####.
Quote:
Both goals against have been off the post and in. That’s a pretty narrow shooting margin.
Quote:
The first one deflected off Pionk in the slot...MoneyPuck says the 2nd one had just under 40% chance of going in.
A bit unlucky....but of course the Jets haven't come close to actually netting their 3.59 xG's.

Quote:
If comrie had the ability to get pissed he would be mad at his team for never scoring in front of him
Quote:
Wolfe has made more big saves in the last 5 minutes than Comrie has all night.
That’s the difference right there
Quote:
Wolf reminds me a lot of helle. Calm, collected, very good positioning.
Quote:
one of the prospect guys, can’t remember who, noticed that goalies who have a .920 in the first 5 years after their draft year are always elite
Hellebuyck is one, Wolf is another

I don't care how good we played that game. That's 1 goal of support for Coms again...
Quote:
so that's what it's like to get hellebuyck'd
Quote:
Jets dominated, wow Wolf is good. You can definitely see why he’s in the Calder race
Quote:
MoneyPuck says 92% for the Jets on the Deserve to Win meter....probably the biggest margin I've seen for Winnipeg all season.
They passed the 4.00 mark for expected goals....yet Wolf is keeping them at bay for the most part.
Quote:
The Jets needed to score "playoff goals" in a game like that against a hot goalie....but they could only manage one deflection/screen/rebound goal on the night.
Doesn't ease the concerns about how this squad will perform in the post-season....they need to adjust earlier in the game to making things difficult on the opposing goaltender.
But they clearly outplayed the Flames and Comrie was sub-par & unlucky while Wolf was stopping everything.

What a frustrating loss. Heavily outplay a mediocre team and still lose. Comrie might just have a curse where we are incapable of scoring with him in the net

There is no point in hoping for a bottom 10 pick if you're still on that train. Wolf is too good. Just enjoy the ride and hope for St Louis and Vancouver losses while we push for the playoffs

Yup make the playoffs and get close to Jersey in points.

Wolf continues to impress me with his play. Square to shooters on all shots and doesn't look small in the net anymore. In my eyes Wolf is clearly #1 now and deserves the majority of playing time until the end of the season.

At this point, the Flames have no choice but to build around Wolf. Build around Wolf, Zary, Coronato. We might miss the playoffs and give the Habs our first this summer, but I’m alright with that knowing that we don’t have to worry about our goaltending for the foreseeable future. Wolf’s a stud
Couldn’t watch this game live but saw some of the chatter around why Winnipeg wouldn’t start Hellebuyck against us and started Comrie instead.
Clearly the reason why is because they didn’t want the possibly-greatest-American-born-goaltender-ever to be shown up by the kid who’s going to take the mantle from him after he retires.
Wolf is going to drag this team to round 2 or 3 of the playoffs this year then next season VGK is going to have a big dropoff and win the Lottery with the Flames holding their first overall pick. You heard it here first. About time the Flames get some good luck

One of Kipper's best features was that he very rarely had a bad game. One of his other best features was how incredible he played in his next game after a bad one.
I see a lot of that in Wolf this season. Saw a lot of it towards the end of last season too, although I had to squint a bit first.
Kipper did have the occasional four goals against games and ALWAYS bounced back, it was the thing he did. Wolf following closely. This kid is legit and we need to do something about that. Elite goalies at good prices are hard to come by, now is the time.

To be fair that really was the case in the first half, by design. But clearly the back half will and should be different. This kid’s special.
The plan was probably that. Protect wolf and let Vladar take the hard games to ease the rookie in. Like Mike tyson once said. "Everyone has a plan untill the get punched in the mouth" wolf has metaphorically punched the coaches plan in the mouth.

I don't understand this team though lol seriously. Get dummied by a not very good Blues team, then go on to beat the jets in their own barn. The team makes a living on doing the exact opposite of expectations.
The Flames. Minus Wolf, with their worse game of the year.
I never realized how down they are on Comrie, realistically that was a goalie duel and, while Comrie lost, he lost to two perfect Elite post-and-in snipes. Nobody was saving those.
My favourite one though?

Dustin Wolf is legit. I haven't seen a ton of his games other than box scores but tonight wasn't a fluke, he has all the tools to be a successful number 1 for a long time.
