This wind combined with blue bin day tomorrow is making for some interesting viewing. I pity the person who ends up as the recipient of all of these papers and bags and other debris currently flying down the street.

Always buy near the top of the hill, never the bottom. It always makes leaves really easy to deal with.

That and your place will probably flood if you're at the bottom.

Although we are near the crest, I have decided to be kind and put our bins away so they don’t suffer the same fate as our neighbours and start spewing debris everywhere. This wind is intense though. Stupid flaps in all of the exhaust fans are all going nuts and driving me batty.

Wind has been crazy for hours now, hoping for no shingle or siding damage in the morning inspection.

I hope people don't suffer damage from this event, but man I miss the wind in Calgary. For whatever reason, I slept well when it was windy out.

Wormius reminds me to go put my bin out this morning, and I see one of the downspouts ripped off my garage. That's a first. RIP SPOUT.

####in' slacker probably neglected to put a screw in that joint. Gonna have to do a post mortem. The worst part is it is the one corner that is a PITA to get a ladder up to, so that's probably why I half assed it. Will probably half ass it again.

Yuuuup, two screws on every joint, no screws on the one that let go. I'm gonna have to have a stern talk with my labourer.

Saw quite a few tree branches this morning along the pathway beside Memorial, west of 14 Street. Some pretty large ones too.

So I replaced my old, worn snow tires over Christmas and spent a pretty penny on solid new ones, AND got them studded (moving to Bankview and dealing with street parking will do that), and spent the first 3 weeks with them frustratingly driving on dry roads in plus 6 degrees. Today I finally got to properly test them out, and it was glorious.

I'm starting to see why some of you winter driving-loving weirdos (I keed) enjoy driving in this stuff. That formerly dreaded double roundabout by Currie Barracks going onto Crowchild didn't stand a chance.

If you're prepped for it, its FUN!

Best winter car I ever had was my old Jeep Patriot. Big 4 cylinder so lots of low-end torque but bupkis for Horsepower, but it was AWD, you could lock the diffs and it was essentially a station wagon that weighed a ton but all the weight was low.

Slapped some Blizzaks on that thing and it was awesome to drive in the winter.

Polar vortex coming to Toronto today. Still not sure what that really means, but I'm staying in!

The wind storm carried something, i suspect its made of cardboard, into the top of one of my backyard trees, some 35 ft off the ground. Its stuck in the branches, it looks to be about 5 feet long and 8 inches wide. Will attempt to get it out of there once it warms up a bit.
Anyone have a trained monkey I can borrow?

It’s a rebranding of cold snap. Even weather forecasters are getting in on the fear-mongering media game, and ‘polar vortex’ sounds scarier than ‘cold snap.’

Yeah, I've always wondered with all the new terms if it was just media sensationalizing things! Like heat domes!!

Are people actually afraid of a polar vortex? I feel like a cold snap sounds much worse. I think it’s just that they have started to use technical terms more often to sound smarter.
