10 + holtz for Markstrom and 28
10 for Markstrom and 28.
Are there any trades you listed where the Flames get way more in value than what they currently have?
If they made the version of the trade that included Holtz and they picked the same player the Devils did at 10 they would have
Holtz, Silayev
Instead they have
Bahl, Gridin, whoever they pick with the Devils 2024 pick.
Not really sure this vaunted 10th overall pick was some sort of crazy over the moon expectation for what Markstrom ended up being worth. Personally I would probably take what they have with the actual trade that was made over what they would have had if they had to throw in 28 to get 10.
Holtz,

I mean I was quite clear in what I was saying. It has nothing to do with your perceived value of the package we got vs what we would have got if the mythical 10th OV trade happened. The absurdity was in what top 10 picks go for and how rarely they're traded vs so many thinking that was the deal that was about to happen AND that we need to pump the brakes on who/what goes the other way to get 10th OV.

With Markstrom's record of 21-8-5 on the Devils, I think it is fair to say that he could have saved the Devils season last year, gotten them into the playoffs and given them a chance keeping the season going long enough for Hamilton to return from his injury.
As people keep pointing out with the "Trade Andersson" arguments, trading a player for more playoff runs has more value. Instead, the Devils blew up their season. They sure showed us!

Goalies are different. You can’t say that just a goalie would have gotten NJ in the playoffs. They also changed coaches and have a new system and a full camp to get Markstrom in the system.
You can’t compare what he’s doing now to what he could have done at the deadline.

My post was more about that we should be open not that Conroy isn’t. Someone said he’s trying to compete no signs of tanking or whatever. We should have everything ok the table to make this team better for the long term.
If you get a top prospect and a stop gap center you go for it if Kadri is down to be traded. Kadri won’t be here when this team is competitive anyways.

I guess if 10 is the place where the dividing line is drawn it is rare but not unheard of. Below are the top 15 picks moved in the past 5 years
Last year the highest pick traded was number 11
2023 it was number 12
2022 picks 6, 7, 11 and 13 were moved
2021 picks 9, 11, 13 and 14 were moved.
2020 it was picks 3, 13 and 15.
Four picks in the top 10 were moved and thirteen picks in the top 15 were moved over the past 5 drafts. So around 1 top 10 pick and 3 top 15 picks were moved. 2024 and 2023 being slower years than the average but those picks get moved pretty frequently.

If Miller can get into New Jersey and tear them apart like he has done to the Canucks room I wonder if he can have them drop in the standings quickly to make that pick better lol.

I think that trading Kadri should be the follow-up if we end up trading for a younger top-6 project of a centre. For example if we trade for one of Cozens, Norris, Pinto, Zegras, Novak, Mittelstdt, or even KK.

I’m pretty sure that if that offer came in, it would be a start the car moment. Everyone in the front office would know that something was going on.

Full-bodied like in wine? Or a massage? Should we expect something less in return like a Merlot or a not-so-happy ending?

Miller is a different beast. I bet if you had 23 Miller's you would never lose again. Or maybe a touch hungover.

Or it completely implode.
Sounds like the guy has worn out his welcome on his third team now. James Neal vibes.

Sure, he's a better player. I'm just saying that NJ was unwilling to part with him for Markstrom, who they desperately needed. Are they willing to part with him for a guy who would be 4th in scoring on their team?

Miller for Nemec and Mercer is probably as close to a great trade for both teams as you'll see.
Just not sure Miller wants to play for NJD, he's pretty set on the rangers... but a few more run-ins with coach Tocchet and that could change.

Miller for Mercer and nemec seems like a terrible deal for NJD.
Millers almost 32 and has tons of personality red flags.
Hes on pace for like 19g/69pts this season too and hasn't been good defensively.
If I'm NjD I'm offering Nemec max. Maybe minimal value throw ins, but definitely not another big piece like Mercer.
If teams are willing to give that up for a 32 year old miller with this drama we should definitely be shopping Kadri.

I think the argument is Mercer is overpaid for what he is bringing to the table, both last season and this. Not really playing center either, so is he just a winger 30-40 point winger?
As for Nemec, he still has a ton of potential, but he's now played over 100 AHL games. Pretty high for #2 pick.

is Mercer bad now?
He's 23 making 4x3.
He's close to 20g/40pt pace and is +9.
Seems perfectly reasonable and like he'd be a valuable asset. I'm sure they flames would pay a pretty penny for him.
He's a 3rd liner but only on a stacked NJD team.
Same thing with Nemec. Just look what Jiricek got.
Pick value wise I would have Nemec + Mercer in the range of x2 1sts + x3 2nds, if not a bit more.
That seems like a huge overpay for Miller.
I'm sure the flames would pay NJD 1st + a 2nd for either of those guys alone.
