Leafs fans probably laughing at this. I think they didn’t want him.
One question though…what’s his rap sheet like?
One thing is certain; he’s not winning the vlasic defensive defenseman award.

The Leafs tried to sign him.

Tkachuk's useless second fight vs this plug in the Dallas series, injured Tkachuk for the rest of the series and into the Oilers series.
Next man up (to forced LTIR) within the next couple weeks for the Oilers when Klinberg ends up being as effective as Freddy Modin was for the Flames and the Oilers realize the need D help before the deadline.

Brad trying to sign a washed depth dman who wasn't very good when he played over a year ago is kinda irrelevant given his track record.
Also the whole "guys want to play here so bad" is laughable
He thinks he can actually get playing time with their terrible dmen, its not the complement they think it is IMO

Desperate times. He can scrape a few assists off of McHobo and get a better deal elsewhere in the summer when they crash out of the playoffs.

Again, they’re not investing much so I don’t see why this move is talked about as horrible among leafs/nucks fans and CPers.
And yes djs, flames fans should be most empathetic towards players wanting to come to a small market, and if you weren’t so blinded by your hatred towards the oilers, you might see this is as a good thing, because regardless of the location of your team, if you’ve got a shot at the cup, players will still want to join your team. Not everything is about this small man narrative you’ve concocted in your own mind.

Remember how Klingberg turned down an 8 Year/7 million AAV with the Stars two years ago?

But he being touted as a top four defenseman that can play with Nurse and also play on the powerplay.
Others see this as Edmonton adding a piece that does not fill their needs at all. They need grit. They need penalty killers. They need defensemen who can play defense - not another offenseman. There is only so many roster spots and so much salary space, and the Oilers have used up a bit more of their limited resources.

I haven’t heard any of that. Who’s saying he’s going to be a top 4? I hope he can become that, but if not, hopefully Klinger finds a place as a 6th or 7th. Contrary to popular opinion on here, our back end isn’t as bad as people say. Sure when Nurse or Bouchard gaff they don’t mess around and usually end up on the highlight reels, but overall their game is pretty good. Ekholm and Kulak are solid, and emberson is coming along nicely. The 6th and 7th spots are what the team is attempting to fill here. That said we definitely could use another top 4 guy.

You don't fill a 6/7 D spot with a player who can't defend.

Oilers need a puck mover more than a defensive D. They are top 5 team in GA/GP since oct. 20th.

Who says that? The same guys that say you don’t make the playoffs if you’re under the line at American Thanksgiving?
