Not totally under his control though. In a year his NTC drops to a list. In fact, he'd have to extend to get to Iggy's number.

I don't care about being in a playoff spot or not at the deadline. You trade him if you can get value.
I do not care at all about getting 4 extra playoff games out of the season. This team is not winning a cup or even a round with this roster.

I know but I don’t think the Flames will ship him if he wants to stay and will re-sign him. He would be an odd one to start maximizing assets with .

The composition of this team smells to me like a first-round upset. I mean that if they did make the playoffs (which I doubt), they might get four wins just from Wolf standing on his head. The team isn't good enough to go any deeper, but strange things happen in the first round almost every year.

Who would we even get for a late picks that's worth it?
It would be someone like Jankowski. Is that even worth it?
I cant see that making any difference in a playoff series.

Agreed. You only move him if he asks for a chance at a cup.
At which point Conroy would probably try and find a landing spot with one of the cup contender teams and max out retention. Max retention would both improve our asset coming back and give Backs the best chance to fit into any team that wants to upgrade their #3C.

Yes, we shouldn't be moving picks for rentals is what I said.
Not even a 6th.

There's also not an impossible chance that the WC2 plays the Oilers in the 1st round.

I'd rather keep our picks, add more picks/prospects and build that way.
However, I don't mind Hamilton 2015 type trades because the player is young, elite and under control for years. That trade got the Flames an asset that was later flipped for more young high end players in Lindholm and Hanifin who were both here through the Flames contention window and were part of a couple 100+ point division winning teams. They were also later flipped as rentals for a nice haul of futures.
It's the Hamonic 2017 type trades I do not want to see. If we'd had Dobson in the fold it wouldn't have stung as much when Fox forced his way out.
And I also do not want to see a single pick sent out to grab any sort of depth piece or rental piece to add to our current roster. This team is not a contender and that type of trade shouldn't happen. I suspect Conroy has no interest in doing that though.
Please trade Andersson while his value is most likely at it's highest for a juicy chunk of futures.

The only way that could happen is if Edmonton won the division, let alone the conference. I think Ronald Reagan was in office when that happened last time.

I agree with most of what you said but that Hamilton trade while not terrible was probably not the right move.
The team just picked 6th in 13 and 4th in 14 and had a fluke playoff appearance in 15 and decided it was time to go all in, only to pick 6th the following year.
Treliving tried to keep going all in all those years when the team wasn't ready. If the reports are right was gunning for Bishop for Tkachuk and had a 7X7 agreed too which woul dhave been franchise crippling.
Sometimes just being patient and not allowing a good or bad year to sway you one way or the other is best and just stick to a plan which it seems this team finds is a hard thing to do.

The Flames are in an interesting spot with their defense. If you move Anderson, you still have three legitimate NHL prospects of Parehk, Bruz and Mews on that right side.
Weegar, bahl, Morin and grushnikov on the left.
The problem is, except for weegar, there is not an NHL minute muncher on the roster. That is too many rookies to throw to the wolves, and not hurt development.
So you need short term veterans in the mix. Maybe a savard on the right and perunovich on the left. Just a steadying presence that won't cost much to acquire.
I still think that's the way to go. It would force at least two prospects to see partial NHL time next year, and that is good for development.

Ekblad is a FA you can sign to a 2-3 year stop gap deal

Stop. Just stop. This is absolute lunacy.
We don't have the elite players needed to win playoff rounds. We are not upsetting anyone in playoffs. This team is devoid of talent and we need to keep drafting well.
You aren't winning a 7 games series against anyone. And I sure as hell don't want to watch Edmonton stomp us.

Yeah I dont find Rasmus to be an irreplaceable player.
I dont get why we don't sell him, get the assets and try to find a stop gap in UFA.
The canes let pesce and skjei walk and replaced them with ghost/walker.

They let Hamilton walk as well. People want to be like Carolina, but want to keep a 2nd pairing dman to a lifetime contract.

Trading Andersson and spending that money on a LH dman makes way more sense to me TBH. Weegar looks way more comfortable on the RH side this season.
Would leave organization depth as:
RH:
Weegar
Pachal
Miromanov
Parekh
Brzstewicz
Mews
LH:
????
Bahl
Bean
Kuznetsov
Poirier
Morin
Grushnikov
LH UFAs This Year that are under 30: Chychrun, Gavrikov, Lindgren, Provorov, Pettersson
I'd have no real issue with getting the Andersson assets, and then trying to use salary space to replace him with one of these LH guys.
Daniel Milstein seems to love the Flames and Gavrikov is one of his players. Gavrikov as a pretty steady LH d-man that is strong defensively, along with Bahl, gives 2 pretty stable LH partners to pair with the young RH guys.
It would be different if I thought Andersson would take a discount to stay, but IMO he's going to want the UFA rate anyways, so no point of really keeping him then. Trade the player, get the assets, then just pay a UFA to replace him but as the more needed LH shot.

Ghost Walker
Let’s trade everything for that pairing.
