We have 8 picks in the draft, we should be adding to that not trading from it.
Who cares if they are in the playoff race at the deadline.

No most than most teams in the league. And some have a lot more. It’s pretty standard these days for veterans over 25 to negotiate trade protection in their contracts. Sucks, but it’s a league thing, not a Flames thing.

For the sake of my fantasy team I hope Miller to the Devils is a thing.

Jeff Skinner, after being bought out by Buffalo, got an NMC, signing with EDM.
Everyone gets one (who qualifies).

The only NTC on the team I think you could maybe question would be Andersson.
When he signed he was still not very established and I don't know if giving him a NTC for the last two years of his deal should have been 100% neccessary.
At the time he was RFA, had shown promise, but also hadn't really broken out offensively yet (hadn't broken 20 points when he signed), so think that's the only one you can really point at and say "Why was that needed"

I’ve said it to our scouts all week long — he’s Joe Nieuwendyk.

I guess that would depend on how badly the Avs want out of the Mittelstadt situation while they are in a win-now window.
Kadri would bring them almost double the goal scoring and could help them try and get out of a wild card position and try for 2nd in their division for home ice advantage for the first round.
The cost difference between Mittelstadt and Kadri is only $1.25M, which doesn't seem like a big deal when you factor in the difference in production right now.
Kadri's NMC means they would have to make him work for this year and next but then the contract changes to a 13 team NTL, which could give the Avs a list of 19 teams they could trade away the last 3 years of his contract.

I want to hate on TMZ Frank, and he gets thing wrong often, but I must say he's been pretty bang on with his valuation of players on the open market over the past year or so.

Gourde is 33, and a rental for $5.166M (prorated of course).
Backs is 35 and has one more year at $4.5M.
I bet Flames will watch this closely.

Why would this ####ty team spend anything to upgrade on 4th line centre?

I think it depends on if Backlund wants the games played record for the Flames

Let's say the Flames are sitting in WC 2 at the deadline. You do not want to add some minor depth up front to help them go head to head with the Jets in Round 1 ? I am only saying to do it if we are in the playoffs at the deadline. If we are outside looking in sell, sell, sell.

This is an awful, awful team being propped up by elite goaltending and good coaching. We are one of the least skilled teams in the league on paper.
|
IF let's say the Flames are in a playoff spot at the deadline would you still want to deal Andersson ? Or wait until the offseason? I would argue you might get more value in the offseason for him when there are more potential Suitors.

To help the Jets get a extra home game? If we don't get swept we go 5 max.

Nope. Go in with what you have, unless the team is dealing for a young centre aiming towards the future.

Reward the group for their hard work to get into the playoffs. They are human beings you are dealing with, not EA sports Be a GM NPC's.

if WE are playing I doubt it even goes 4
If the Flames add anything it should be a young player that is here for a while...OR use only the cap space to add things like depth or decent players making too much money on short term contracts (why not?) No picks out for rental types obviously.

Adding some depth pieces will really not move the needle much. Reward every single player for getting you there by playing them. If there are injuries, then it would be fantastic experience for whomever the Flames recall to back-fill.
It Calgary makes the playoffs, it isn't as if we are expecting a long playoffs, right? Just reward the players in the organization and take it as a stepping stone. It would be foolish in my opinion to spend futures trying shore-up this team for what will be a short run.

That is a reward. Tells them we believe in this group to make it happen, no-one else believed in you so go get it done.
