A goal is a goal.

Guess who is #2 all-time in empty net goals.

Without checking my money would be on Gretz, as he has the most goals.

Also, its not like he was floating out at center like those idiots up north. He made a good block and it sent him on the breakaway. Thats an earned goal

Oilers fans used to always harp on Iginla's empty net goals. Players that score a lot of goals usually get their share of empty netters.

Yep.

1. Ovechkin 61
2. Wayne 56

For those wondering, Jarome has 32.

A goal is a goal, and the haters saying Ovi's record is not impressive because of the EN is just ridiculous. He has 5 more than Wayne.

A player only gets an empty net goal when the coach trusts them to be on the ice near the end of a close game. Or you are playing the Islanders and they say #### it.

It's OK, by the time Ovechkin is done he'll easily have more non-empty netter goals than Gretzky so the empty netters simply become the cherry on top.

And as Flames fans, we all know how important an empty net goal is, and when the net is missed.

And as far as 61 vs 56 goes, teams pull the goalie MUCH earlier now than they did back in Gretzky's era, so there are much more opportunities for empty netters.

But even ignoring that fact, 61 vs 56, when we're talking over 800 goals for each, is immaterial statistical noise.

Yes, but was it an empty netter?

21 away from the record. Only 20 to tie it.

He freaking might do it this year even after missing 16 games with a broke leg. He's definitely motivated.

How could he possibly retire if he scores almost a gpg this year though. He's a madman.

He will probably play for a few more years and aim for 1,000 goals if he is continuing scoring at this pace the reseet of this year and next season.

Flames should try to pick him up.

I thought he was done last year. He is a machine. Crazy what he’s doing at his age.

I've written the guy off a couple times during his career. He is, as you say, a machine.

A goal-scoring machine. I dont care about all of the old guys in the 70s and 80s, I will maintain that Alex Ovechkin is the greatest pure goal-scorer in the history of the game.

He is a treat to watch. And...he is inevitable.

You know where he's going to be. You know what he's going to do. But inevitably it happens anyways.

I was just being a jerk because of haters who claim all his goals are empty netters.

His goal last night was a great goal off the rush in OT, in the rare 0-0 OT scenario.
