Do you have to exaggerate continuously? The pound has ranged from 1.6 to 1.8 over the last years. Why not round and say about 20k instead.

But also did you look at Pierre’s expenses when posting this

July 2023 - Sept 2023 115k on travel for his office
Oct 2023 - Dec 2023 - 134k on travel for his office
Jan 1st 2024 - Mar 31 2024 157k on travel
April - June 2024 57k
June - Sept 2024 83k

I don’t see the problem with Carneys or Polliveres expenses these are generally necessary to do business but you could have the identical types of articles. These articles are generally designed to inflame rather than inform. These are also the expenses from Polliverres office and not just PP himself so not a direct analog to Carney and his two advisors

https://www.ourcommons.ca/proactived...fficers/2025/2

I for one thing complaining about travel spend in these scenarios is rather ridiculous.

You are comparing the leader of the Official Opposition of Canada (2nd largest country in the world) to the Head of the Bank of England? False equivalence!

Anyway the UK goverment thought otherwise, so the people who represent the taxpayers of the country opinion is what matters, not yours.

The grasping at straws is just making me like Carney more. I’m not to the point where I’d be foolish enough to buy a membership and endure the next decade of spam and phone calls, but I guess you never know.

Yeah, the pettiness and weirdness of the criticisms is certainly having the opposite effect they’re intended to have.

To be honest, it’s also kind of funny to watch that “Ah I’m a centrist but I have to vote PP because Trudeau is the worst and Singh is a leftist and I just wish there was someone better” camp totally fracture. Carney seems to have enough to at least make the truly non-partisan people stop and say, “OK, let’s see where this goes, I’m listening” while revealing the pretenders who, apparently, would actually write off anyone in contention because they’re only ever going to vote CPC anyway.

I think there’s people who actually want something better, and really were looking at the CPC solely out of a distaste for Trudeau, are intrigued by Carney. It’ll be interesting to see this play out.

And of course, a hilarious own-goal disaster if the Liberals pick Freeland instead lol.

I didn't know who my vote would go to once Trudeau stepped down (although it was ABM - Anybody But Milhouse), but watching the angry right-wingers in this thread lose their minds over Carney only 12 hours into his leadership announcement, I'm really leaning to voting for Carney now.

Isn't this just kind of a reverse "own the libs" type of thing?

Absolutely. What's a similar slogan when it goes the other way?

That's great! Your one vote might be the difference between offical party status or not.

Make your vote count!

You sound like my NDP mates when Layton looked like a lock, never under estimate Ontario's desperate need to vote Liberal

It would be ironic that the Liberal party stabs Freeland in the back again by elevating Carney over her. Trudeau tossed her under the bus just to promote him only over her just a few months ago to finally kick this off. Then he goes and lectures the world about how the US didn't vote for Harris because women's rights and progress is under attack.

Going to be an interesting series of weeks with all these knives out and everybody so stabby stabby.

Much of the current sentiment is also anti Trudeau; more than pro PP.
If Carney leads the Liberals, PP may actually have to distance himself from nut bars and return to centre to keep those voters.

Pierre ditching the far right means he would actually have a chance to become PM.

But alas, he will not and does not.

It isn't that difficult for PP to paint Carney as a clone of Trudeau.

He also needs to get elected first.

Getting Michael Ignatieff vibes here

To you; but your vote isn't up for grabs anyway.

To people on the centre who are capable of voting Liberal or Conservative in different elections, who are often crucial to the outcome of our elections; that may not be the case.

It's early and a long way to go, so we'll see.
If he gets elected, agree with you there.

But I am in the center, the liberals under Trudeau were nowhere near the center and that's only half the reason why they were terrible.

Carney? Well lets wait till he releases some policies or even wins the leadership and he still needs to be elected. He has no choice but to pretend to be right of Junior because he is going to have to try real hard to distance himself. But i have my doubts he would ever govern that way.

Until then PP is where it's at.

Have to admit that's sort of the fence I'm on. Carney is a guy I'm quite willing to listen to what he has to say. I'll be interested to see what he puts forth as a plan in the coming days. Is it generalizations or will it have some substance.

If the party rejects him and just choses Freelund...well better luck in 2029.

I don't think anyone can save the Liberal party in this election. But come next election cycle the electorate in a lot of these Western democracies might be thinking oh no we've made a horrible mistake with the current run of populist types winning.
