How on-brand for Albertans to complain about our oil being shut in and being mistreated by the federal government after the feds spent $5 billion to finish TransMountain, and oil exports and production have both hit record highs. There’s no timeline where Alberta uber alles types don’t piss and moan about how badly treated we are.

Wasn’t every Albertan boy raised like me? Taught how to catch, drive, and hate Trudeau and the Feds for being anti-Albertan?

My dad taught me more about the NEP than anything else. Honestly.

It doesn’t matter who owns the oil at the last second before it crosses the border. That’s not how any of this works. In the situation of an export levy, the buyer pays. It can change hands 40 times on paper before it crosses the border, but someone is paying the tax.

I truly hope this is you making something up and not Smith’s actual theory (maybe provide a link if it is) because if Smith believes this is how it works then we’re all being led by someone even dumber than we thought.

And regardless of that, it’d be easier and more likely for Canada to just stop exports of it altogether. Which it can also do unilaterally.

Alberta has no say, no power, no jurisdiction, no authority, no whatever you want to call it. So all Smith has been doing is peacocking for her supporters, and it’s clearly working, but it has no actual value for our province.

Are you suggesting that the Canadian government would go to the US to collect export levies from us corporations?

Welp

Quote:
“She is ready to make difficult decisions to meet our emissions targets and make sure big polluters pay for their outsized emissions. But she will not fight Canadians on a policy they have been clear, they do not support,” the source tells CTV News. “That’s why Chrystia Freeland will replace the consumer carbon price with a system that will work within our federation and will be developed collaboratively with provinces and territories.”
Your move Carney.

No wonder the Liberal core is fighting so hard to get Carney in. All their ideological plans that they implemented under Trudeau are being burned to the ground by Freeland.

The Liberal leadership race is now about the carbon tax. I honestly think that the Liberal party is completely fractured with two major camps infighting on core ideological values within the party. Is there possibility of a breakup?

Unfortunately, Freeland's own record on carbon tax is extremely poor. To back out of it now after everything that she did on it while toeing the party line, to the major detriment of provinces and Canadians, is going to be a hard sell to Canadians should she make it as leader. She refused to work collaboratively with provinces and territories in 2023 at time when cost of living and inflation worries was at its peak when she could and now claiming she will work with them. The lack of working collaboratively with provinces was a good part on her.

She cannot distance herself away from what she did.

I think we need to just give this whole Carbon Tax thing a little break.

Lets kill Phil and then all head to the Winchester, have a pint and wait for this whole Climate Emergency to blow over.

You cannot possibly have been talking about Smith’s master plan with such confidence only to reveal you don’t know how taxes and levies work, can you?

Smith hasn't articulated her plan at all with any detail.

But I'm still quite curious where/when exactly you think the feds would enforce the levy.

There's this thing called the Canada Border Services Agency that, among other things, enforces customs tariffs.

How is she not rolling over for Trump? She's only "stands up" when it's against Trudeau, as soon as PP takes over she'll be the biggest lapdog premier in the country

Why are you so fervently supportive of it then? You don't even know what it is. Which means you are blindly following her lead, and given her long string of failures and disasters over the years, and endless displays of her lack of knowledge in, well, every area, I can only conclude that you, sir, are insane.

You are sending a barrel of oil through a pipeline and across the border into the US. Where do you (the feds) collect the export levy and from whom?

Yea if Carney wins then he'll get my vote over the current plan of not voting at all. I doubt he could actually win the election, but my slim hope is that there are enough people who do the same as me to give PP a minority instead of a majority. I think ultimately that would be the best possible scenario for the next election

Smith fangirling over Trump and attending his inauguration during her personal time just shows how she's gaga over Trump. Frankly, I find it disgusting. She's so antagonistic towards her fellow Canadians and the federal government, yet just happily wags her tail running over to be at Trump's beck and call.

I'm honestly ashamed she's our premier, if I'm being frank.

I just realized what Smith is doing. She obviously has no clue. This fall I was playing sidewalk Tic Tac Toe with my 8 YO niece. I was trying to convince her there is no way to win if both players do not make a mistake. She kept looking for loopholes, for ways to make it work. It didn't, until she made a mistake and I did beat her, and then she spent the next 30 minutes trying to make the game look like she had won. It was eventually a solid brown square...

Anywho, Smith is like my 8 YO niece. She's convinced there is a way to make things work despite everyone knowing the winning move against Trump is to not play his game. And eventually she'll make a mistake, we will all lose and she'll spent the next year trying to convince us she was right. Fortunately losing Tic Tac Toe didn't have any consequences...But this is the mental level she is playing from.

like why didnt any other premiers go see trump?
