Appeasement is a poor strategy.
Quote:
Ms. Smith said she favours appeasing Mr. Trump by trying to narrow the trade gap.
“I think the solution is that we find ways to buy more American goods,” she said. “I’ll put that on the table.”
Alberta, she said, wants to build more natural gas power plants, needs transformers, and is exploring data centres for artificial intelligence. The U.S. could supply the necessary goods for these projects.
“We buy lots of food products that come across from the United States,” she added. “Maybe there’s a way to buy more and bring down the cost of groceries in Alberta and Canada.”

Smith, Alberta’s leader, said Canada could also try to mollify Trump by agreeing to let in more U.S. products, opening the door to larger imports of dairy products or electronics.

Every time I think of how bad Doug Ford is here I realize he can't hold a candle to Smith.

Which I have yet to see her do. She acts in the best interests of herself and those supporters who keep her in power. The only thing that matters to Danielle Smith is Danielle Smith.
She wants power and her supporters want to take as much of Alberta's money and resources for themselves as they can. Albertans are just another resource to them. They don't care about making life better for us. They want to use us to make themselves as rich as they can.

Well, we haven't done it in the absence of a threat, so I'll take the wins where I can get them.

Which is exactly what Trump wants. Divide and conquer. Focus on the weakest links first. Smith is playing into his hand.
Trump is a duplicitous #### and anyone who gets any modicum of a handshake deal from this guy is going to get screwed

Canada seems to be the weakest link, and Alberta the strongest. Otherwise why is everyone complaining about Alberta? Smith is playing this whole situation masterfully. She's certainly the most relevant political figure in Canada right now.

You’re trying to argue that because a lot of people are complaining that she must be doing the right thing?

She’s offering up concessions, for other provinces. This is going to burn bridges with the other provinces. She is supposed to be trying to improve our relations with the other provinces so that we can get the infrastructure to ship our products to overseas markets built. Remember?

Can you provide proof she didn't have conversations with other provinces prior to her trip, and in these conversations she was given a green light to speak on their behalf?

Well if she did she wasn’t speaking for Doug Ford as he already has broke ranks with her.

Because Doug Ford wants to block energy exports and she doesn't?
Does Doug Ford realize that his energy from Alberta goes through the states before it hits Ontario?

Alberta has tried numerous times and with numerous policies to win the hearts and minds of the rest of Canada. The Liberal party (who are just agents of Central Canada's tyranny of the majority) came after Alberta anyway.
As people have said here: appeasement doesn't work.

Are you looking for proof in the form of a signed letter from the other premiers?
Or would it suffice to explain to you that the other provinces telling Smith to go offer concessions that have a greater negative impact on their industries while asking for a carve out on the tariffs that primarily benefits industries in Alberta doesn’t make any sense?
