If it was the Olympics instead of a 4 team tournament? I’d say so

And if I was Team USA I would just to give him some experience to where he is going to be settling in for the next 10 years.

But this is going to be more of a 12 day all star game I think.

Lifetime .916 save percentage.

He’s been one of the best back ups in hockey.

Having watched a lot of the Leafs, Stolarz is for real. As long as he stays healthy. To me that's the big question.

Same question for Woll as well. They certainly need one to stay healthy at all times.

Wolf getting some recognition and forcing the Athletic to write about the Flames.
Quote:
I understand the lack of games played argument against Wolf — he’ll need to hit the 50ish starts mark to come close to winning the Calder — but the splits are so stark that it doesn’t matter for me right now. The Flames have an 8-3-1 record (116-point pace) during Wolf’s games and a 4-4-2 record (82-point pace) when he doesn’t start. Wolf’s .921 save percentage is tied for seventh among the 38 goaltenders who’ve played 10 or more games.Wolf is the most valuable player on a team that’s wildly exceeded expectations. In my mind, there’s no rookie in the league who’s been more important to his team’s success.

Don't look at who they have in 6th place for the Calder.

Yup, I watch a lot of the Leafs game as well and agree with you about Stolarz. Really awesome add by Tre.

Why has he bounced around and why hasn't he made the transition to being a starter? It's peculiar. Would be interested to know.

The Athletic has him second behind Celebrini! Kudos to whoever put money on him at 40 to 1

Sportsnet put out an article today of their four Calder candidates and Wolf is one of them. Chances improving that Wolf will at least get nominated!

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...of-nhl-season/

Quote:
Dustin Wolf has appeared in games for the Flames across three campaigns, yet it's only been this season that the undersized netminder is getting a real shot at proving himself in the big leagues.

A seventh-round pick for the Flames in 2019, Wolf worked his way through the system and managed to find success at every level and, in his second year of professional hockey, received the Lee Cunningham Award as the AHL's most valuable player, among other accolades. In 2024-25, following Jacob Markstrom's trade to New Jersey, Wolf finally earned an opening-night roster spot out of training camp.
Quote:
His .916 save percentage, 2.50 goals-against average and two shutouts not only rank above the NHL average this season, he also ranks seventh in save-percentage leaders league-wide. Wolf's numbers clock above Vezina Trophy-winners Linus Ullmark, Andrei Vasilevskiy and Igor Shesterkin, while the rookie faces an average of 30 shots per game.

The Flames also have a 14-6-3 record at the Saddledome, thanks in large part to Wolf, who was between the pipes for all but three of those wins. In Calgary, Wolf has a 1.98 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage, losing just two games in regulation at home.

His play has earned him a run at the No. 1 position over veteran Dan Vladar, getting the start in the past four games.

Wolf absolutely belongs in the Calder conversation, but his position as a goaltender — though crucial for his team — puts him at an inherent disadvantage. The last goalie to be named a finalist was Alex Nedeljkovic, in 2021, but the last goalie to actually win the award was Steve Mason, in 2009, making it exceedingly rare for a goaltender to win Rookie of the Year in this day and age.

Comparing the impact of goaltender vs skater is kind of awkward and probably why you don't see more goalies in conversation for Hart or Calder. I think he would have to be in Vezina conversation to get picked for Calder, just my guess, so like top 3 in sv%, and have started 55+ games.

Ulmark won the Vezina playing sub 50 games. If you can win the Vezina playing sub 50 games, the Calder shouldn't be a stretch.

The odds will be so stacked against Wolf to win it. Goalies are already in tough to win it. Add in the fact that a Montreal player is in the mix and Wolf is in Western Canada and it’s a real uphill battle.

He’ll get votes but it will take a crazy back half of the season for him to win it. First of all, the flames will have to make the playoffs. He’s the only rookie in the race that needs that to happen for him to have a shot at winning. He’ll also have to play at least 80% of the remaining games. He’ll also need to finish with a save percentage around .920 or better.

It’s not fair but these kind of awards often cheat flames players (see Iginla 2002).

I know many people cry about how Toronto only talks about the Leafs and how SN especially, absolutely hates the Flames, but Kyper and Bourne opened their national hour today talking about Wolf and how amazing he's been. Good segment for Flames fan to check out! Kypreos, Bourne and McKee have actually been pretty excited about Wolf all season long.

If the Flames make the playoffs on the back of Wolf's perfomance, it would be absolute highway robbery that he doesn't win the Calder because there would have been zero chance that they make the playoffs without his contributions. He plays the hardest position on the ice and has a less quality team around him than Hutson who has Suzuki, Caufiled, Laine, Slafkovsky to feed.

People that picked the Flames 31st overall should be voting for Wolf but I doubt they do
