You aren’t getting the 2024 playoff PK again. So what’s the plan?

CP downplays a run like that as some sort of a statistical fluke, instead of seeing it for what it was. A dominant area of the game that the oilers excelled in over a large period of time. You’re right, I doubt they repeat that type of dominance, but the pk is largely a team system, not individual playmakers, especially the forwards. I’m not overly concerned as a fan about the oilers pk come playoff time. Also I think since November it’s been pretty good, I don’t have the stats to back that though.

A LOT went the Oilers way last spring...and they still didn't win
The were fortunate to beat the Canucks and Stars TBH but whatever. Canucks had major injuries and it was one goal in game 7 and don't get me started on games 1 and 6 vs. the Stars. Kings will likely choke as usual but Vegas in round 2? GL. Vegas being a WC team was also a massive stroke of luck that won't be happening again.

Lol the stars definitely aligned. The good western teams beat up one another in the central bracket while the Oilers got a couple of overachieving teams that probably aren't PO teams in the eastern conference.
They probably don't get past Vegas in round one, who are just a better playoff team and a little bit stronger in all areas outside of top end than the Oilers (hence the cup).

Dallas beat Vegas, a wild card team, in the first round. That’s how sports work. The better team moves forward. It was quite apparent Vegas had something off with them last year.
I mean outside of the reffing and the league being rigged, I’m curious… if the oilers win their division, play Vegas, Colorado and Florida on their way to the cup, would you still have excuses? Again, outside of the reffing and league being rigged, that goes without saying here.

Excuses for what? they lost.
Fact is Dallas had a way harder road to the conference finals...taking on Vegas and Colorado took a lot out of them Vs. LA and Vancouver. It was an extremely fortunate bracket for the Oilers. Still Dallas outplayed the Oilers badly especially in game six but sometimes a team just gets all the breaks. Usually cinderella doesn't win the big prize in the end though.
Montreal was in the finals a few years ago...they certainly weren't the 2nd best team in the NHL. Nor were the Oilers IMO.

Lol, you're delusional if you think the Oilers are beating any of those teams. Certainly not with that atrocious D and goaltending. And your PK currently sits 24th in the league. That ain't gonna cut it this time.

If Demko had been healthy, the Canucks would have ended that series in 6 games or less. Him getting injured along with Boeser's injury before game 7 were the best things to happen to the Oilers in those playoffs. The stars aligned perfectly for them, and the chances of that happening again in a similar fashion this year are likely zero.

You completely underestimated them all season, except the final game… thanks. Now you’re doing it again this year. Instead of looking at the team as a whole, you’re picking out things that don’t matter to that, like contracts and the future. Im not defending some of the moves nor the future outlook. I think there are some issues with all that. Im looking at the team they have now, and its not no good, its actually a really good team with all the tools to make another deep run. Saying that, it’s sports, even the most optimistic fan has to realize they’re only still slightly over 10% to win the cup as the favorites to do that. Some of the other bragging about a division and downplaying a game 7 finals run are proof of the inane mentality around this place. If the jerseys were reversed and I came on here bragging about a division title 4 years ago and ignore a playoff run like that, I’d be rightfully ostracized.

We wouldn't know because none of us are on an Oiler fan board in a thread about the Flames deficiencies trumpeting the greatness of the Flames. If we did that, we'd deserve to be tarred and feathered.
Oiler fans do that because E=ng

One of the great side effects of this thread is that Oiler fans from different reaches of the internet feel compelled to come in here to defend Edmonton.
Which is, of course, indefensible.
E=NG, it's just math.

This cant be overstated, they had such a soft path to the finals. Plus some incredible officiating fortune.
I still cant get over how on the same play in the Vancouver series. McDavid 2-handed an opponent and Hyman crosschecked a Canuck in the face.
Yet, Vancouver got the suspension and fine.
Unbelievable.

You know what happens on HFOil when a non-Oiler fan comes on and (a) talks about their team or (b) criticizes the Oilers? Instaban.

Last 3 games
The vaunted offense scored 1 goal against an LA team that was flat
Barely got past a tired Blackhawks team who was playing a goaltender with one of the worst win/loss records in the history of the game
Embarrassed by the juggernaut Penguins
They've peaked, downhill from here

And needed a cheap powerplay to take the lead after the officials didn't call anything and let them get away with much worse.

Yeah, as bad as the Canucks were (and it still went 7), Demko eliminates them for sure.
What fortune to line up a rookie goalie (and he still took them the distance).
That run was a pig in a dress with rainbow dust.
Nice comeback against fhe Panthers, but then their top guys completely no-showed in game 7 and that's why they aren't winners and may never be.
Close but no cigar despite getting all the fortune a team could ask for is exactly what that arrogant, mouth-running fanbase deserves.
