Interesting take.

Nothing like bringing in a 14-year vet of perennial losing teams to help your team win!
Can't employ sounder logic than that.

Not defending him at all, agree with your take but is that on him? Lets use an example close to us, Iginla 16 seasons, ONE second round appearance. Cannot blame him one bit.

Buffalo, with no cap issues, is paying him not to play for them.

Iggy was keeping his teams afloat in every way possible, even if they weren't good enough on the whole.
I don't think Skinner was part of the solution for any of the bad/losing teams he was on.
Even if he was scoring a bucket of goals, was he helping in other areas, or at least doing his part to not be a part of the problems?
If he brought that kind of value, I'm not sure he's shipped out of Carolina and then Buffalo in the manner and circumstance that he was.
Both clubs deemed him to have negative value, in spite of the goal scoring ability.
Whereas clubs aspiring to win like BOS, PIT and COL lined up to acquire Iginla's services, and the Flames were very reluctant to let him go if it weren't for an impending rebuild.

I suspect Kane was close to returning and a new excuse was needed.

He can finally center the top line...
... with Kane and Skinner on his wings.

The icing on top would be Draisaitl having to watch the remainder of his career whither away on a bad, McDavid-less Oilers team and ultimately winning nothing.
If that means a Toronto championship, I could live with it.

Oh, I don’t know… every part of the season last year. The oilers won’t make the playoffs after their start. They won’t get past the kings, although a few said they’d get past the kings. Vancouver and Dallas would walk all over them. They’d get swept after game 3 in the finals. Then even many on here were calling the oilers to win game 7. You completely underestimated them all season, except the final game… thanks. Now you’re doing it again this year. Instead of looking at the team as a whole, you’re picking out things that don’t matter to that, like contracts and the future. Im not defending some of the moves nor the future outlook. I think there are some issues with all that. Im looking at the team they have now, and its not no good, its actually a really good team with all the tools to make another deep run. Saying that, it’s sports, even the most optimistic fan has to realize they’re only still slightly over 10% to win the cup as the favorites to do that. Some of the other bragging about a division and downplaying a game 7 finals run are proof of the inane mentality around this place. If the jerseys were reversed and I came on here bragging about a division title 4 years ago and ignore a playoff run like that, I’d be rightfully ostracized.

Instead you're banking on CP being wrong and Skinner elevating his game two-three letter grades, when you had a few sure things and scattered them to the wind for no reason.
|
I don’t mind banking on CP being wrong about the oilers. Just don’t pick them to win game 7 of the finals again.
