I think everyone is a little antsy because we still don't have a really solid center prospect in the system.i think if we had that base covered people would be even more optimistic about the re-whatever so far.
If we had taken Axel Sandin-Pellika and Helenius instead of Parehk and Honzek i wonder if people would feel a little more comfortable.
Would still have a potential 1D in the system but would also have a center with top 6 potential.

If we never get a Crosby, but the top three lines each have a couple of productive Zary/Coronato type players, we'll be fine.
Three very good second lines is also an interesting strategy. We almost had that last rebuild but GMBT got impatient and went UFA shopping.

Also, never assume the cap is going up as much as rumoured - if it does, great. But plan for less. I think it's a pretty safe bet that the cap only goes up by $5M next year.

Agreed. In addition, the game 1 starting roster has had significant changes compared to now. People had Kuzmenko in pen into the line up and he's been a healthy scratch most of the year. Mantha is injured and gone for the year. Stuff happens in a season that results in opportunity for young players. No one had Kerins being a game 42 call-up at the start of the season.

Nah, people would be complaining that we don't have a 1C so much as a Backlund replacement lined up.

I just don't understand what you expected the team to do in order to assure themselves of a top 5 finish.

I still think the team has a good chance of a top 10 pick finish. Top 5 is not going to happen, but I see a possible path to pick 9 or 10 depending on how our next few road trips go.
The question would then be, if we are sitting and 9 or 10 do we stay there or do we use some of our other draft capital to convert quantity into quality. I would be happy to see the team use the NJD pick to trade up and try for a Misa and/or McQueen.

Is the rumor that the 2025 draft is not particularly good?

Historically it's very hard to move into those top slots. I don't think the NJD pick gets it done.

Agreed. It would take a very specific situation where a team prioritizes organizational need and wants a D instead of a C and thinks their guy will slide to our pick. Then they could use that opportunity to get another pick while still getting their guy.

It’s funny thinking of the extreme scenarios by the trade deadline: either going on a run to be solidly in a playoff spot or having a rough stretch and end up dropping into the top 10. At this point, the flames have shown that they will most likely be right where they are by the deadline. Probably either in the last playoff spot or just outside and within 2-3 points of Vancouver in either direction. It’s the murkiest of waters at that point and the toughest call to make as far as selling players.

I mean they really only have Andersson to sell this deadline and I’m guessing they only trade him if the offer is really strong.

Doesn’t look like there is a Celebrini or a Bedard level prospect in this draft. And there looks to be a big drop off after the top 8-10.

Paulie, this is how you use the quote function. I know last time I tried to teach you you cried about some advertisements or something they was making you sad that day.
Who are the elite studs who have carried Pettersson? Is it Beauvillier? lane Peterson? Kuzmenko? What studs in your expert hockey opinion make you wary of whether 26 year old Pettersson is a first line center?

Maybe not quite that level but Misa is looking real good this season. I’d gladly take my chances on him becoming a solid 1C

I think the organization has been searching for that 2nd guy behind Monny but never got it done, just like the failed trade for Kadri the first time around.
Feel like they always viewed it as #1Monny, #3 Backlund so we needed that 2nd guy.
They tried it out when they flipped Lindholm to C in the 19/20 season, but they also started doing weird things like put Backlund on the wing. Unfortunately, that is when the injuries really derailed Monny during that time.
So, they went and signed Kadri to create that Lindholm/Kadri/Backlund trio but Lindholm couldn't carry a line.
Zary seems to be tracking to be a really good #2C, so finding a play driving #1 will be a game changer.

Agreed. Misa is the player I want more than any other in this draft. I noticed him all the way down to 12th in rankings on elite prospects. That seems really strange. Must be people over-reacting to him not being invited to the WJ camp - which is not a good reason to drop him in rankings. It’s obvious to everyone how poorly selected and managed that team was.

If he somehow slips past that top 5 I hope Conroy has everything outside of 2016 1sts (unless lottery protected), Wolf, Zary, Coronato, Parekh on the table

I could see a team like Seattle be willing to move a high pick for help now. Feels like they need to take a step sooner rather than later and they have a ton of young centers

So nothing that other teams would be interested in?
