With the demographic state of this country that trend will only continue.

As bad as Twitter and Facebook are, YouTube is the real killer here. It's always 'I saw this video', and if they saw that video then they had suggestions for a dozen more like it or worse. Honestly, at some point shutting down all social media might be the only answer.

I think the new trend is far more dangerous than the skeptical "just asking questions" crowd. Now the problem is they don't ask questions. The listen to a 3 hour podcast, take it all in, and that's now part of their world view. That's my brother's problem, anyway. And if you say stuff that doesn't match what they now "know", you are the crazy one. Ones they put an ounce of trust into these new personalities, they are lost. And most of the time they don't even ask the most basic of questions..can I trust this guy?

The rise of misinformation, what was once laughed off and not taken seriously only 10+ years ago, is now absolutely concerning. The fact that it is responsible for Trump's re-election, election interference in general from foreign entities, oligarchs attaining more corporate control over our politicians, and now influential tech bros hopping into the VIP section of the misinformation train that affect our daily media, all while attempting to intentionally mislead certain easily-manipulated demographics of citizens, is now in a level of dangerousness that we as the majority of people should be extremely worried about.

Skepticism and cynicism both seem more thoughtful approaches than mindlessly following conspiracy theories.

It's so annoying how often something gets posted on Reddit and you have to go to the comments to find the real info.
Karma farmers post #### like this for internet points.
https://www.reddit.com/r/interesting...re_department/
That's obviously the US Forest Service and it's probably not even LA. As far as misinformation goes it's pretty innocuous but it's still bull#### that should get removed before thousands of people upvote it and move on thinking it's real.

I wish someone would Pied Piper these dumb mother duckers directly into the ocean. "Don't worry if it feels like you are drowning, that's just the cancer purifying properties at work. Keep going!"

Big RW conspiracy theory social media accounts have really ramped up about the fires in LA claiming
-They are an actual war or foreign invasion
-A plot to kill people to destroy evidence of Covid vaccine adverse effects
-Weather manipulation
-A deliberate bombing campaign
-A mass spraying of mood stabilisers

I think this mistates what Covid made people dumber means. This isn’t the 3 points of iq pushing more people into developmently delayed
This is much more a social affect rather than an intelligence affect
Now you can still blame Covid for creating and widening the network of idiots but that was well underway prior to that with Trumps first term and the worldwide use of things like Facebook to distribute propaganda

I watched the first 30min of him on Joe Rogan just to see what he was saying and after hearing him talk about not fact checking it does start to make sense. Why should they be the voice that decides what is true or not and the political pressure they got was also biased also the sheer amount of work to do it and not accidentally ban or block the wrong people. The only logical choice is a twitter style community notes but even that can be compromised.
Facebook just needs a huge disclaimer on the page that says they can't verify the truth of anything being posted including "News" and thats all they can do. Stupid people will still get their news from facebook regardless.

Because he's lying. So you listened to 30 minutes, and now believe Facebook was the one checking. They weren't. He's saying this to make it sound like it would be something a reasonable person wouldn't want, so that he can build support. Did Joe call him out on this? Of course not. This is why dudes like Joe are a major problem. They platformed a liar and now reasonably minded people think Facebook was the arbiter of truth.
No, the reality is they had a third party do it, and that's what still happens in Canada.

To fight the spread of misinformation and provide people with more reliable information, Meta partners with independent third-party fact-checkers that are certified through the non-partisan International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). We don't think a private company like Meta should be deciding what’s true or false, which is exactly why we have a global network of fact-checking partners who independently review and rate potential misinformation across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Their work enables us to take action and reduce the spread of problematic content across our apps.

It's always worth fact checking the guy who is bailing on fact checking. Particularly when he says it on Joe Rogan. Perfect example of misinformation.

Yeah I mean I expected to be called out for hearing on Joe Rogan but that is where he was speaking. I have enough critical thinking to filter out Joes opinions that he speaks as truth. I also went in to hear the justification for the removal of fact checking as I thought and still think its a terrible idea but also understand part of the justification, I also understand how this helps spread misinformation.
