His name is Dustin Wolf.
He is a goaltender. Apparently a very rather good one for that matter.
I'm unaware of his current contractual status in regards to an extension, but I think the team should be amenable to said aforementioned extension, however, time and control do appear to be on the team's side and perhaps that should be considered further as the scenario develops.
I do however believe that this is most likely to conclude in the mutual favour of both parties.
A party-sized Subway sandwich might be served at the signing party, however it is important to note that this is not contractually obligated by either party. But it'd be nice.
Also....'party.' I had a quota to hit. Carry on.

He’s going to be a player that haunts teams for a long time. Even before the draft… where he went 4th from last… the hype has been answered at every step. The kids a gamer.

Initial thought after seeing this thread for the first time since being bumped:
What’s the discussion about? How awesome he is?
Can’t wait to watch his career

Love how calm he is - much like Kipper.
Love the way that he can not only get across the crease faster than most goalies, but is still in control and in position, like he was with that late save last night - again, much like Kipper.
I hate to put a label like that on a rookie kid like him, but that's who he reminds me of: my favourite Flame and favourite goalie of all time, the legend, Mr Kiprusoff.

Never thought we’d ever see the day a home grown goalie from the Flames will likely take Kiprusoffs spot for top goalie all time in this organization.
Kids a phenom.
To me, this is our “first overall Bedard” and in a more important position.
Hockey gods, please send us a top 10 center.

I honestly can’t think of a goalie who has such smooth and precise lateral movement. Not just the Flames, but any team.

It's important the Flames stop sheltering him and give him 2/3rds of the remaining games. Not only for them to have a chance at the playoffs, but to get a solid read on the type of contract they will be comfortable giving him this off-season. I know he has one year left on his deal but the Flames should be looking at giving him a 8 year deal July 1st. If he gets the Flames in the playoffs the contract will be $8 million/yr minimum.

He’s so calming. Kipper was so calm in net. Goal goes in flips the mask takes a drink of water and on to the next save.
Compare that with these lugs we had in net. Stinkneye eyeing down his teammates or Marksteom throwing tantrums and running after the ref.
I don’t like paying goalies but I think we go 8 years and 10M plus AAV

Bridge contract probably. Takes him closer to UFA. He'll also have arbitration rights which could have nasty consequences.
Goaltenders are voodoo.

We can’t lock him down until July.
I was laughed at suggesting our cap space is going to be gobbled up by our young players.
All 20M will taken up by Wolf, Coronato and Zary somehow people thought that was a joke. It might cost more.

Yup.
He is just so quiet in his movements.
I was worried the speed of the NHL game would be to much for him to play the way he did in the A, but it looks like he might even be more comfortable with things happening faster. As mentioned, his lateral movement is exceptional and always in control.
He doesn't go down unless necessary and on time unlike his crease mate.
He really is looking like he will be "that guy".

I could definitely see their extensions coming close to this… of course, they won’t all be in effect until the following season (2026-2027). It could be as low as $7 mill/year for Zary, $7 mill/year for Coronato and $7.5 million/year for Wolf assuming they’re all signed to 8 year deals. That would be $21.5 million in cap space.
The cap is supposed to go up by at least $9 million by then but if Andersson is re-signed he would take up most of that. It is shocking how quickly cap space can be taken up. Worth it though to sign all 3 and have them locked in long-term.

Good thing Mckenna and Dupont will be on their ELC's for the upcoming cup runs!

No, they aren’t.
The best goalies, year after year, are the best goalies.
They don’t always have their best numbers because this #### is hard and they’re one player out of 23.
But goalies who know what they’re doing don’t just forget, and Wolf knows what he’s doing.
Sign him to the best eight year deal you can and don’t overthink it.

Stargazers got quite a treat this week as Mother Nature cooperated enough to reveal the first full moon of 2025.
January's first full Moon is called a 'Wolf Moon' as it is believed wolves howled more at this time of year because there is less food available in the middle of the winter.
This year's Wolf Moon took place Monday, Jan. 13 and it will appear full until Wednesday, Jan. 15.

and on january 13th.... guess who was in net to beat the hawks!
coincidence??

There are typically a few goalies who dominate for long periods. Like 4 or 5 that just consistently kill it over a 10 year stretch.
But there also seems to be many goalies that are flashes in the pan, catch lightning in a bottle, and then fade away fast.
I am not worried about Wolf though. He has been consistently developed into the best goalie at every league he has been in, and the early returns seem to be staying on that trend. He has also had to prove people wrong at every level which I suspect created a drive for him to keep doing just that regardless of when he gets the bag. I'd be fine if they just lock him long term when they have a chance.
My bigger worry is that it takes out of running to build the team with high draft picks, so I wonder how we'll get the guns needed to build a true contender. Conroy is going to have make some shrewd moves, and the scouts need on their A game for sure.
