A fully retained Rasmus Andersson WITH term left should get whatever the Flames want from the 24 teams they can trade him to without asking his permission.

A 2.275m RHS top 4 dman is a pretty significant prize for any team.

But that's neither here nor there as we can safely assume the Flames will hold out hope of re-signing him right until the bitter end of the 26 tdl

His value is at his highest right now. You get the remainder of this season plus next and you have cost control. That would allow a contender he goes to if they lose in the playoffs the ability to dip into free agency or make another trade for a big fish.

We wait until the 26 deadline and yeah we might end up with Nick Robertson for the Wranglers and a 1st.

Yup.

This year (right now), he costs $1.13M and replaces a replacement level player costing $400k, for a net cost of about $700-750K

Next year, he costs $2.27M, upgrading on a replacement level player, for a net cost of about $1.4M.

For that price, you get a top pairing defenseman, in his prime, who can play in all situations.

To say that's only worth a late 1st and a B prospect is nuts.

Detroit - Danielson or Kasper
Colorado - Ritchie
Utah - Tij
St Louis - Dvorsky
Tampa - Geekie
Seattle - Wright or Catton
Winnipeg - Yager or Lambert

These are the targets and teams I could see making a push for Ras. This is what I see Craig holding out for

Out of that entire list I would say Tij is probably the least likely. Utah seemed to really want him and he’s their 1st ever pick and a Iginla.

Agreed, I just think if he goes to Utah thats what Craig starts the conversation with. More the level of player, though the additional draft and name factors make it unlikely

Utah isn’t trading Tij.
Unless of course you want to give a top 5 pick++ this year for him.
He’s they’re cornerstone player and first draft pick, they’re very high on him becoming his Dad for them.

By all accounts Yzerman adores Danielson. He will probably be offering guys like Berggren, Soderblom, Rasmussen, Shai Buium, etc. I think ASP, Danielsson, Kasper would be the untouchables.

I do not believe Andersson or Conroy will drag this out. I expect that he will either sign an extension by July 1 or be traded before next season to a contender.

If he is traded, I would expect it to be either at the trade deadline this season (because he has told Conroy behind closed doors that he wants to go to a contender) or he will be traded in July after he doesn't sign an extension.

My feeling is that Andersson likes being a leader in the team. He seems to really thrive with more pressure. I would be happy if he signed an extension and stayed with the team for 8 more years. With him and Weegar it would be easy to build a young D core around them.

If we do get to the point of having Weegar and Andersson signed long term, then the next question would be how to trade some of our D prospects for C depth. We have way too many good young D players for the 4 NHL spots remaining.

If our D group was projecting to become:
Weegar - Parekh
Morin - Andersson
Grushnikov - Brzustewicz
Mironmanov

Then we would be looking to deal guys like Bahl, Bean, Pachal, Solovyov, Kuznetsov to try to add to our weak position. (Just as an example)

Yeah. As others have said, Tij is probably the most untouchable of any of those players. Followed closely by Dvorsky and Catton.

I hope and pray we get any one of these players, but I can’t see any of them getting traded for Andersson. I think we’re setting ourselves up for disappointment.

I think anyone who is expecting to see an Andersson trade this year is setting themselves up for disappointment.

Surprised people are still talking about it less than 24hrs after he came out and said he would like to stay.

Then again, perhaps it’s not surprising at all.

Rasmus can be extended sometime this year? And that's even by a new team if traded??

If that's the case, his biggest value might be to a contender at cap retained plus an extension in hand too.

A retained Andersson would be a valuable piece for teams that see themselves as contenders the next several seasons and are tight to cap. The Lightning definitely fit that bill, and McDonaugh should move down in the depth chart the last couple seasons of his deal. I doubt they part with Geekie however which would be the key piece of the deal for the Flames.
