Hopefully the O's just dropped the ball and there are no issues.

Yeah. I think there's a chance the O's just changed their mind and used that as an out.

But that's a lot of money and term to pay a reliever if he has a busted arm. Hopefully the first and not the second.

Yeah hopeully shopping in the scratch and dent section isn't going to burn them. So they weren't willing at $40 but ok at $33?

Remember the home grown reliever with issues was cut unceremoniously a couple months ago by the same team.

Not sure if I would call this a win for Atkins. Sure they did something but only becuase they got someone that someone else declined, at a slight discount.

Also yet another case of the Jays being the players 2nd choice.

To be fair the Orioles did offer more money.

As that a result of the physical?

The article I read said they offered him $40 million, saw something in his physical and backed out on that deal while offering less money on an alternate deal. At that point Hoffman signed with the Jays.

The bullpen is still garbage and they still need a big bat or two. They better not be done. Either sign or trade there's lots left to do or this season will be a waste of time for everyone.

Bullpen could be ok. If you have Hoffman as closer and Garcia/Green/Swanson as setup/leverage guys you might be ok. Swanson seems like a good bet for a rebound given the stuff in his personal life last year.

If Manoah comes back that might push Rodriguez into the pen as a higher leverage long man to eat innings as well. Would be unreal if they could sign Sasaki and push Rodriguez to the pen right away. Then maybe if Manoah comes back you go 6 man rotation and pitch the starters an extra inning per game to take the load off the pen.

The bullpen was a disaster last year but I think at this point finding at least one outfielder who can hit and a good DH should be a higher priority.

Bullpens are so volatile it's hard to say if it sucks or not right not. They went from one of the best to the absolute worst in one season with basically the same personnel.

There is still a lot of good, experienced arms among them. I wouldn't count them out, but who knows.

Since the signing bonus is going to be limited either way, endorsement opportunities are where he is really going to have the opportunity to make money. The isn’t going to happen in a small market. It also isn’t going to happen with the Dodgers, who already have a few high profile players. I think Toronto would be a great spot for Sasaki to make a lot of money.

Agreed, Jays still have not addressed the biggest issues.

Yes, they have added arms to their bull pen

With the trade earlier in the offseason, if anything the Jays are a worse offensive team,

I am sure, Bo will bounce back...

However is Springer even an every day player?

How long is Varsho out of the lineup to start the year.... weeks?

I don't disagree. But they seem reluctant go substantially over the luxury tax. I hope I am wrong
Maybe a trade. Excess infielder.

I am mixed on bullpen as stated above volatile.

Yeah - they probably only have space to sign 1 bat inside the luxury tax threshold at this point. Which seems crazy because as constructed now this doesn't seem like a playoff team at all imo.

Not that anyone is asking for my opinion, but the Hoffman signing doesn't move the needle for me. It raises the floor for the pitching situation and is only three years, which is good, but it was a nice-to-have, move, more than a necessity. The lineup is still mediocre. If we fielded this lineup I simply wouldn't be happy. But there's more off-season to come for a month, so we'll see what they muster. I am very happy Ross hasn't signed a terrible contract to a long term deal, screwing over the new GM. It's a huge positive.

I don't think anybody would be. If management wants to try and keep their jobs they're going to have to convince Rogers to let them spend more if they haven't already.

I believe Jays were over the luxury tax last season, once they made all of the trades, they went under.

My guess, they could go over,

Its hard to believe this is the lineup,

As its not very good.

Only way real change happens is if STH and more specifically corporate holders start making a stink.

With the ticket price increases and the push by the organization to get commital earlier and earlier to pay each season for all the upgrades done, that is the biggest place where concern can be voiced. Other markets there is commercial TV sponsors and TV partners have a voice; for Rogers of course this is one and the same.

The accounting is not clear how much they make with it being hidden as one entity. What can they spend?
