For instance, royalties paid on oil or gas that's extracted and then exported are in no way paid for by Canadians, but they're included as part of the tax burden.
I think the portion of CPP contributions I'm paying to cover previously underfunded pensions feels a lot like a tax. Previous generations left a debt that we're paying for now. They could have had the government pay for it and raised the money with a payroll tax but their covered it by raising contributions instead. I think money thay government takes by mandate that benefits someone else is pretty reasonably called a tax.

The portion I'm paying for my pension is clearly not a tax though.

Who does he donate to? The Musk Fund. Perhaps the worst charity in America by the effect it has on actually supporting anything useful.

would you rather have Canada do this

If you could drive down the street of CP and yell, “get a job!” at certain prolific posters.

Highly subjective, just offering a different opinion to educate certain "Progressives" who have been lied too most of the time by their progresiive politicians and legacy media!

if there is anything that offensive or provocative i am just merely reacting to something said by someone else, but that seems to be the culture on this forum, so when in rome!

Try to post the truth, but can't always win!

I liked the one about how people should be embarrassed to work minimum wage jobs.

That certainly was very educational, but probably not for the reasons you intended.

another strike coming because of the disgusting UCP cap of a 2.75% raise over 4 years for any union contract.
https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/strike-n...oday-1.7169939

what make it worse is they mandate a maximum 4 year raise about equal to what they've just given themselves for this single calendar year.

https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/alberta-...ucus-1.7170239

so to sum it up. the UCP says 4 year increase of 2.75% for union workers is
" appropriate for this round of bargaining, and it seems unreasonable that the union is demanding more"

but for themselves the 2.5% one year increase...
Shane Getson says the annual pay raise, which begins in April but is retroactive to the start of the year, is “reasonable.”

#### the UCP.

I'm not going to presume anything in your case, but it does sound an awful lot like some career landlords I've heard who have somehow performed enough mental gymnastics to think that they are somehow contributing to society.

(To be clear, I mean people who just own and rent out a ton of properties and that is all they do...except maybe buy even more to continue. Not in reference to someone who rents out a place or two)

They really should just peg all these contracts to the average of the previous X years of CPI where X is the length of the previous contract. We don’t know what inflation will be in advance but we do know what inflation was.

This seems the most ridiculous:
"The decision is part of a package of funding perks approved by UCP members that will also see their caucus get an extra $1 million from taxpayers for items like research and public communications."

How much money do they need to write those hacky press releases? I'm sure you could get AI to do a better job without all the tedious whining about the feds.

It’s funny that Trump’s election seems to have inspired a few of the alt right folks to start heavy posting again.

Would someone drop me a note when the topic comes back around to "Alberta Politics & Government?"

that's even sadder.

You are wealthy enough to not work, or work less, and choose to spend your free time trolling the political threads of a mid-market hockey team...
