Without vladdy and Bo this team might average 5 people watching them per game

If they lose both stars, I think that might be the worst front office fail in the majors, in a very long time. This should be the end of the rebuild and right on top of contending years

Prescriptively that makes sense but there have to be limitations, and understanding what difference said player is within the context of what’s around him. If this was 3 years ago and he was asking for a ten year deal, go for it. The team was on. The upswing and there was potential for contending. Since then no true prospects have emerged, prospects were traded, and the market for stars has gone up materially. Does signing a star now make sense at that term and cost? Not sure. There are plenty of holes to plug that I think they’d be better off trading him and getting good assets back to rebuild.

But if you trade him you aren’t getting good assets back, you are getting average assets back. Nothing to build around, or with the potential to build around. You are getting a teams 10-15th best prospect, a replacement level MLB player and maybe a long shot prospect in low A, that isn’t ranked in the top 30 of a teams prospect list.
Vladdy is going to be a top 10 offensive player for the foreseeable future, you have to sign him. If you can’t sign him by spring training then you have to trade him, but signing him has to be the priority.

Apparently the Jays are still in on Roki Sasaki.
Why does the media hate Jays fans and keep giving us false hope all the time?
The Jays can't even outbid the other teams for him, so it's a matter of selling him on their organization, development system/time line and long term future with the club.

With Sasaki it won’t come down to money, because of his age he has to sign a minor league contract subject to the 2025 international signing bonus pools. Toronto has an estimated $6.2m, Dodgers have $5.1m.

You can trade for bonus pool money and I'd expect whoever wins to need to do so. Although his agent said he was interested in potentially smaller markets as well - and coincidentally they can pay the most. Reds/Tigers/Marlins/Brewers/Twins/As/Mariners/Rays all have $7.55MM to start with. And anything you give him is a bargain since you get all the pre-arb/arb years.
There's a limit to how much bonus pool money you can trade for as a percentage of how much you started with (iirc its like 50-60%) so the teams with the most to start with can also trade for the most and make the highest overall possible offer.

I think it's more likely to come down to money given the max he can get is like $12MM. Someone like Yamamoto is generationally rich whether he goes to LA for $325MM or the Mets for $350.
But KC for $12 vs the Dodgers at 7.5MM is a bigger difference, imo.

JTech, where is the information that a full year of Vlad will only yield a teams' low ranked prospect? Soto was always going to the highest bidder so there was no sign and trade opportunity there from the sounds of it. Kikuchi received back a decent haul and he was a free agent with only a few months left. The chance to sign an impact player like Vlad, and have a legit chance (Bos, LA, Atl, SF), would widely appeal to those teams I'd think, so much so that they've give up their better prospects for a full season of him.

They drafted and traded Hoffman away for Tulo way back when.

Bullpen needed this.
Pretty good deal IMO given his performance the last two seasons.

The jays need another 2-3 solid relivers as well. A good start.
Fixing the bullpen is like adding Soto for how bad it was last year.
