It's not comparable.
Sam Bennett was 24 and was in his Draft+7 when he was traded.
Wright just turned 21 this week and is in Draft+3 it's not the same situation.
Kirby Dach would be the closest comparable, 3rd overall pick, traded at the conclusion of his Draft+3 season coming off a 26 point season, and he returned the 13th OV pick and 66th OV pick.

Wright is also on pace for 40 points, playing C with Jared McCann and Eeli Tolvanen as linemates, playing 13 mins a night.

Exactly. That Flames offer is no where close to what I bet other teams would be willing to put on the table.
If, at 21, the Flames were shopping Bennett and that was the type of proposal people were throwing around a whole lot of posters on this forum would have flipped.

100% that's the draw if a trade emerges. From a calgary perspective, you run Grabeaur for one year past this one, let Wolf get comfortable playing 40 games for another season, don't care about wins, and then buy out Grabeaur in year two, bringing up Cooley for an60-40 split.
Works for calgary because they are three years behind Seattle in their respective rebuilds.

Don't even have to go back in time.
Connor Zary is 23 and has a 0.54 P/GP the last two seasons (compared to 21 year old Wright at 0.50 P/GP the last two seasons)
If anybody came and proposed trading Zary for a 2nd and a 4th they'd be criticized off this board.
I would bet people would scoff at a 1st round pick in the 20-30 range too.

3 teams passed him. Didn’t he get exceptional status ? Something is very wrong with him and character issues.
Doesn’t seem like player I would be all in on b

The closer comparison is the Dach trade. So maybe Honzek gets it done unless the Kraken just dislike Wright

The knock against him was documented in the movie Draft Day. It doesn't mean that he couldn't grow out of it.
Edit : meant to quote Paulie.

Honzek and a 1st? That's too much. I still think Honzek is going to be a beast.

Craig in this holding pattern, chasing that playoff dream (yuck imo) likely want that revenue $$

If it is the NJD 1st + Pelletier for Wright then that would be too easy.
The goalie swap would make sense to get the Kraken out from under that brutal Grubauer contract before Daccord's new contract kicks in but that only makes sense to do right now if they think they have a chance to turn their season around and climb the 9 points needed to get into the WC conversation. Otherwise it can wait for the summer.
It is interesting to see the pedestal that Wright keeps getting put on because of his draft pedigree but when you compare him to Beniers, one can see big differences between the two young players.
Wright managed to play 8 games in his first season and 8 games in his second season and is now at 54 games played in his D+3 year.
Beniers is already done his ELC and has played over 200 games in his D+4 year.
Put that together with the rumour of personality issues and you can see why Wright might be on the block.

I have Suniev, Honzek, Gridin, Basha, Mews, Parehk, Brewster, Misa as kind of untouchables as far as improving center.
Stromgren would have to be a real improvement. Basha, Battaglia, Klapka, Kerins but only for a better center, and most other guys I would absolutely entertain in trading for a center and have spoken out for frequently now in favour of. We only have so many wing positions with three of the eight positions locked up for at least three more years.
We have four picks in the top two rounds this year good chance one is a winger. Especially since most good centres are taken in the first round.
To the original point it would take a massive overpayment to get Honzek.

You risk losing Cooley when you waive him at the beginning of next season.

I wish for a swift, and decisive losing streak putting an end to that stupid, short sighted target.
The Flames will never change.

Gotta take back substantial dead cap for those trades to keep us above the cap floor.

I'm sure there are teams out there willing to "help" the Flames out with a bad contract or two

Good point. Tough because I don’t know of many bad contracts on those teams that the flames could take back. Maybe acquire someone like Grubauer from Seattle while also gaining some picks for the trouble.
