However, that's not the point nor does it really matter. Elon is worth close to half a trillion dollars while many in the same country starve and die from lack of money and resources! Furthermore, value like this is probably better than cash anyway because as we know billionaires don't use their own money anyway. They use their valuations to expand their businesses, buy new ones, and continue to increase their valuations. And the cycle repeats.
2. Children (and adults) ABSOLUTELY die because they can't afford medical care. You forget that many people who are poor don't seek out medical care because they know it will bankrupt them afterwards, hoping their condition or sickness will get better on it's own, or just resigning to put up with it. In a system where health care costs so much children ABSOLUTELY die because the system is so scary, so daunting, and so expensive, it often feels like it makes more sense to just ignore it.
But even understanding that, YOUR OWN QUOTE says that 'life-saving care is GENERALLY provided...' Hardly a strong endorsement of the law and system you are trying to defend.
Sure the law may say that, but in a system where money is king, it doesn't work that way in practice.
Thanks Republicans!
You get all of this wrong and then you have the arrogance to tell others to educate themselves and to stop spreading misinformation.
Well Mel, I would say that perhaps YOU should educate yourself. And that YOU definitely should stop spreading misinformation. (Not to mention misquoting people)
But we've seen your posting for years and know that won't happen. So I'll just say, continue being a great example of the Dunning-Krugar Effect!

Canada and the US basically have the same infant mortality rates from the 2 sites I checked. US having one more death per one thousand births.

No, one death per thousand isn't 'basically the same', Canada is poor for a developed country, we have been slipping some, mostly due to the difficulty of providing healthcare to rural first nations community's but the US's 5.5 is getting into poor for a developing nation edging into average for the 3rd world
Good is 1.5, decent (most of Europe) is 3, were 4.5 and the US is teetering on the edge of the abyss that is places like Argentina Peru and Brazil
This for the richest country in the world who population on paper earns much more than we do, money should buy health but Canadians live 3 years longer than Americans on average, 3 years is a massive difference, we would normally need a biblical plague to drop us down into what is an average year for the US

Terrible. Clearly has to have something to do with wealth imbalance and access to quality care. Or just stupidity possibly.
What's Canada's reason for being only about 10 spots better?

No. There are no terms.
We aren't the United States and never will be unless they overtake us by force. But that is a fallacy given the extent of how our militaries are intertwined. It's just silly that these is even a conversation at it is clearly a distraction from other matters.

Good article discussing it, the issues Canada has and the difference in how stats are collecting in the EU which makes the number not directly comparable. Assuming it applies to the US number too.

This is one thing that no one is talking about. Trump is 78 years old and does not look healthy at all. And don't even get me started on his mental decline. Is he even gonna last the next 4 years? Are we gonna get President JD Vance soon? Sure seems like it.

Sorry that was kind of an ill founded joke, in the guise of making the the Americans fantasy a little less palatable to them.
But in the sense of needing to take Trump seriously because while the guy is a joke his words have serious consequences, it's not like we would even consider a world where Alberta, Quebec and Ontario needed to share representation in a legislative body, so the idea of talking about a 51st state is kind of a joke. because Canada would need to be split into at least 7-10 divisions just from a governance prospective.

I've been making the macabre joke that we're at least 4 states for a while. Probably 5 if you consider the maritimes as one, but perhaps you'd just add them to maine or something. lol

Ontario would be about the fourth or fifth largest state by population on its own. Quebec, BC and Alberta are much bigger than many US states. Alberta has about 10x the population of Wyoming.

Without saying as much, its let's put a tax on wealth to fund healthcare so children don't die...Elon doesn't have 415 billion in taxable income and furthermore he just paid 11 billion in taxes.
There are already a litany of programs in place to help people who can't pay, they should probably do some research instead of listening to the media and people like you guys who fear monger about American Healthcare system. It's not perfect, but people should be talking about the litany of programs available if you are in that position.

You are kinda alll over the place here, going from children to adults to children.
Again there is a law in the US as i linked to in my previous post,
Quote:
In 1986, Congress enacted the Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) to ensure public access to emergency services regardless of ability to pay.
|
I am not going to dispute that some people die because they don't seek medical attention because it happens in Canada for some of the same reasons. But that is a personal decision, if you have a medicaly emergency in the USA you can get treatment without having to worry about paying. It's all outlined in that link, So not being able to pay is not an excuse. And children are not dying because of lack of funds or even because Elon has 400+ billion in paper.

People shouldn't be talking about the reasons why people end up in that position in the first place?

LOL
OG Point: Children die because parents can't afford healthcare in the US
My Point: No they don't, it's the law to not provide emergency care for anyone
Counter Point: They do die but for other reasons (Strawman)
My Point: That is true and that also happens in Canda but that's not what's being discussed
Quite frankly their point is a very Canadian perspective on US health care. If you don't have insurance you may have to pay out of pocket for non serious medical care, but again there are a litany of ways to reduce that cost or get it wiped out.
it's just another case of single payer healthcare advocates feeding doom and gloom to the ignorant
Every heard of
