fairly straightforward ... same sim rating, I get younger, Carolina gets a center. Love how Monny is doing in Columbus, so not easy to give him up - but given I signed him to an inflated UFA deal in the offseason, flipping him a few months later for an RFA aged scorer like DeBrincat was tempting.

MAF is playing great, but he's 40 and his durability is that of a 60yr old. He plays and then is tired for 2 games.

Wedgewood has not played well enough to be comfortable heading towards what is hopefully a deep playoff run, so needed to find a tender.

Markstrom is a good fit this year and next for us (MAF retires this year). Scorp is sending $2M in cheese next year as well, which offsets the sting of moving what I consider is a highly rated prospect.

But this solves my starting tender problem for 1.5 years, which in SIM years is the equivalent of 5 years haha.

I'm not a big fan of Kotkaniemi but he is still young and salary isn't bad. Gives us a body for next year. Cagnoni is an under sized but really skilled dman.

Every conversation with Carolina ended in, "so how about Wolf?", so I finally gave in. What I wanted was to fill the major holes in my lineup. All players coming back are also RFA.

Not even sure how to rate this one, but it did change the makeup of the mediocre Kings!

The Avs trade 1st Avs 2026, 2nd Sens 26, Whitecloud and M Jones to the Rangers for Parayko, Lyon and $6 mil cheese in 24/25

to add to that, the Rangers completed a total of four deals yesterday.

To COL: Colton Parayko, Alex Lyon, $6m
To NYR: Zach Whitecloud, Martin Jones, 2026 1st (COL), 2026 2nd (OTT)

To WSH: Damon Severson, $3m
To NYR: Brennan Othmann, Radim Simek, 2026 2nd (ANA)

To TB: 1.9m next year
To NYR: 1.5m this year

To LA: 1.9m next year
To NYR: 1.5m this year

With the latter two deals necessary to make the cheese work. Initially wanted to see whether I can flip one of Parayko and Severson, but I liked the offers I got and so I ended up trading both. Took a bit of work to get there, but I'm happy with the future pieces we've picked up. Othmann hasn't put it all together yet, but I think he will eventually. Adding three quality picks in 2026 obviously the main motivation for these deals, especially getting a 1st. At worst, those picks will be decent trade chips.

Also worth noting that my three big UFA signings from the offseason (Monahan, Parayko and Lyon) have now all been flipped and turned into Alex DeBrincat, Zach Whitecloud, a 2026 1st round pick and a 2026 2nd round pick (and Martin Jones, I guess). For a rebuilding team, I think that makes a lot of sense.
