How early? Examples would be nice.

Well, McKenna is done for example and he just turned 17 less than 3 weeks ago.

Thanks. So he could have had one year of NCAA hockey, as the youngest and probably least physically mature player on his team, instead of playing one more year of junior before jumping straight to the NHL. I don't see that being a live option for that calibre of prospect.

I sure hope not.

But it didn't stop a guy like Celebrini from dominating the NCAA in his draft year, and he is the same caliber of prospect.

Next year is McKenna's draft year, and if he wants he could bolt to the NCAA. Hopefully he doesn't.
I get there can be a concern for a small number of players, but there are only so many NCAA spots available and not every team in the NCAA is taking on CHL players. The US have their own development plans and systems.

I think you might be overstating the impact this will have. But I may be wrong.

This may also open up spots in the CHL for international players from other countries.

The holes will be filled, there will be plenty of kids willing to take the spots and excel for those that leave for the NCAA.

Not quite correct. They can accept NIL money in Canada. Pretty easy loophole to jump through.

To my mind Stromgren, gridin and Suniev, Honzek are going to be nhl’ers and good ones although stromgren might be the least offensive of the bunch.

I can find Stromgren offensive if that will help. Waaah! That Stromgren! He offends me!

(Off topic, but maybe that's why the Oilers stock up on forwards every year and neglect D and goaltending. Everything else in Edmonton is offensive, so who are they to buck the trend?)

Holy moly what a haul of picks. That's nuts. They must think he will be around a least another year. Which makes sense with his age (he doesn't turn 19 till March).

Which is interesting because there was a lot of speculation in December that Mews would be a player most likely to go to the NCAA route next year.

I think it's a crap ton of picks because there isn't any 1sts in there and the 2nds are all the way out to 2027.

CHL trades are like EA's NHL video games... just keep adding draft picks until the other team accepts.

If the Flames received an offer from another NHL team for a prospect, two seconds, two thirds, a fifth and three 7ths for Mews, would they take it?

This is the 1000yh trade in the past week that has an insane amount of draft picks.

It means that draft picks are no longer going to matter. It’s going to be total free agency. Why draft a kid if they can just tell you to F off.
