This is not possible to achieve, not now and not in Trumps term. We are incapable of building these projects currently under the legal framework of our country.

Example, look at the lack of critical minerals mines built in the last 4 years. The entire time the government in power has been talking about supporting them through the regulatory process and they still can't get any off the ground. These arent even as controversial as energy projects.
Regulations can be altered quickly, that part will probably happen within the year, it's clear Germany desperately wants access to Canadian Gas, the signing of a contract is a shot across Trumps bow even if it is a 10 year build, give Germany a lease to build and run an LNG plant on the East Coast for 20 years, they would jump at that right now

No they wouldn't. It's still cheaper just to buy LNG from the US and Qatar than it is to build thousands of kilometers of pipeline and spin up a liquefaction facility. They want someone else to take on that risk if gas prices drop over time. And they still see LNG mostly as a stopgap.

Despite all the challenges, Coastal Gaslink still got built. It can be done, but you don't just get to run roughshod over nature and people's rights anymore.

WHAT

You're really going to use Coastal Gas link?? How long do you think it took to build from when it was proposed, out of curiosity?

Reviews and consultation started in 2012!!!!!!
13 years to build a resource export project. That is why we arent seeing any more go forward.

Some of y'all gotta relax a little bit. Clearly buddy is a dumb dumb who attempts to negotiate via the time honoured tradition of leading with an insane ask (we'll take over Greenland! And the Panama Canal! And Canada will be the 51st state!) with the goal of claiming victory eventually when some other minor unrelated thing takes place. It's the same idiot thing he did with Mexico trying to claim a victory for something that was already in the works. The US is not starting an armed conflict with a member NATO nation and their closest trading partner over these statements. As much as this president would like to be he is not in fact an emperor. Gonna give yourselves brain bleeds losing your minds over this stuff every day for four years.

"BUT BUT HE HAS SYCOPHANTS IT'S GONNA HAPPEN. THE GUARD RAILS ARE GONE WE'RE ALL GONNA DIEEEEEEE"

Fine. If it happens it's literally WWIII and none of this message board stuff matters. Enjoy that because if the US decides that's what it's gonna do no one outside of China has a chance to actually stop them. I don’t know, maybe I'm old and tired but I'll be damned if I'm going to invest critical emotional capital on a daily basis losing my mind over the idiotic remarks of a broken brain grandpa.

Focus on the stuff that matters like how the house approved a bill allowing the deportation of undocumented immigrants who are charged, not convicted, of nonviolent crimes. Thats something worth getting up in arms over.

Honest question. Why even bother getting up in arms over it? There is nothing anyone on this board, or in Canada, can do to effect this. Letting anything happening down there upset you is abject silliness.

Would it be WW3 though? Who would reasonably stand up for us? I dont think a europe worried about Russian aggression is going to be quick to jump to the pump about protecting Canada from their biggest ally/military daddy.

I don't think it will get hot, but I also don't think it's wise to discount it entirely. We are in uncharted waters. What I worry about most is total shennanigans from someone like our noble premier.

Theoretical for you. US Congress is the only barrier for admitting a US state. Let's say Danielle pulls some #### and "applies" for statehood as the du jure leader of the province. Let's also say that the US congress is looney enough to vote in favor of this (I wouldn't put it past the bunch of psycophant ass kissers trump has ensured are in office.)

What happens when Canada objects? Wouldn't the US military defend any US State?

Well yeah - CGL had to be timed to come into service when the liquefaction facility comes on line (which is soon). Why would you have built CGL otherwise? In between you had a commodity downturn where the viability of many west coast LNG facilities were questioned and many scrapped. Not too mention the inhospitable landscape of NW BC - very difficult to build in these places. I am not saying the regulatory framework for accomplishing these projects in Canada isn’t painstaking, but once you have approvals and indigenous support things can move quickly.

It reminds me of when GW Bush said he wanted to add Lake Champlain to the "Great Lakes".

Still can't believe this rapist, convicted felon, idiotic ####stain charlatan of a human being is back in office. Worst president in American history. I sincerely hope to God that there's sane people behind the scenes again standing by to neuter his insane ideas. Cannot believe how many dumbass people south of the border fell for his and the GOP's grift.

So which one of these posters here is Trump. The idea of the US taking over Canada was one the posters fears. Now that Trump talks about it daily I bet he got the idea from CP

I compared our situation to that of Austria after Hitler came to power. I'm not persuaded that's changed at all, what with Trump effectively musing about declaring war against 3 peaceful nations all at the same time.

Frankly our best hope at the moment is that country self-immolates once he starts imposing his domestic policy. But even then, these people with Trump at the helm are extremely dangerous and I wouldn't rule anything out.

No, the tariffs won’t shut off Canadian oil and gas to the us. The refineries in the entire mid west are basically fed by the Enbridge mainline which originates here. There’s not an alternate flow path available to replace with us crude. So the oil will still flow, it has to. And either the producers take a 25 percent cut, the refiners take a 25 percent cut or energy costs raise. But the oil will flow. It may temprorarily stop some but even the gulf coast refiners taking heaviy don’t have an alternate heavy us source, they’d be looking at mexico( with same Tardif) or Venezuela.

Not a problem for Canada though at that point, massively inflationary for the US which is why I suspect Trump wont do it
