Arguably you should only watch the first 30 minutes of that movie.

Your wording is pretty ambiguous here. Sounds like all you did was convince him not to buy another $2k phone, but rather something cheaper. If you told him to get it repaired, then based on your previous posts, I thought you would have said that originally.

There is a large amount of posters who don't pay attention to any of your nonsensical short story posts.

You bastard!
I’m staying in the Titanic Hotel later this month for my birthday. I’d planned to visit the museum to find out what happened on its maiden voyage.
Now you’ve completely ruined it for me.

Well you know there is one thing that can not happen. The ship was unsinkable, so it couldn't be that.

In a metaphorical sense both in the film and as a gay teenager, absolutely.

A "quality" similar style machine may run $1000+ from an LG, Samsung, Whirpool etc. A lot of times those machines will last maybe 5-8 years and when they break, it will usually be a part that may be expensive to replace or it won't make financial sense. Electronic components are usually the worst as it's some sensor on some cycle that goes. You buy the same machine and the same thing happens and on and on. It's a bad cycle!

Washers and dryers are simple machines. The parts don't cost that much - not even the control board. Buy a one receptacle surge protector for the washer - surges are what kills everything these days.
You have an extreme sense of nostalgia. Cars didn't last 500K kms "back in the day". Hondas have had transmission problems since forever, I have no idea why people keep thinking the damned things are all that reliable. Jesus I remember when people complained about ABS being unreliable. And automatic transmissions. And the e-brake button on the floor. And shift stalks on the steering column. And the tranny hump in the back seat.

The transmission went in mine and it was $450, a new one was $600. Sometimes parts are expensive. And this was a simple Maytag.

The problem is that he’s 39, so the nostalgia isn’t based on actual lived experience, it’s based on made up stories.

Damn, it is made up stories then.
Reminds me of the time I was sitting in the Heninger Toyota shuttle bus, and an older lady bragged how her Corolla was a tank, after she had spent $2500 on "routine maintenance". This was like in 2006.

Still fixable by yourself. Washers are not magical machines.
As a homeowner, you're pretty well resigned to become handy, otherwise be prepared to spend $$$.
