Does that open the path for him to go UFA via college?

With a swath of B+ type winger prospects, i think the excitement will come if and when they can supplement that with an A level center or two.

Yeah, things begin to start taking shape if we can grab a top-tier centre prospect.
They just need the drafting opportunity. Hopefully we get that in 25 and again in 26, and then we can really get rolling in 27.

Of course as mentioned above, now they can just #### off to the NCAA whenever they want.

Always confused on that AHL rule because some guys go when they are 19.
Anyways he turns 20 in November does that still work?
I doubt they get much from NIL money, the AHL money would likely be higher.
Sorry Misa is 20 in November. Mews is 19 in March.

Yes, I forgot Misa turns 20 this calendar year in 2025. AFAIK that makes him eligible for the AHL next season.
A year of NCAA probably wouldn't hurt though. I can see a future where a lot of high end CHL 20's leave the CHL instead of playing over age, but then instead of turning pro and risking being ECHL bound, go to the NCAA for a year before turning pro.

I'm assuming players drafted in the CHL still need to be signed within 2 years or they go back into the draft even if they move to the NCAA but I haven't seen any confirmation on that.

From people I know, it sounds like it will be more than just high end CHL 20's that will be going to the NCAA. High end 17/18 year olds are also planning on going. Top end guys like McKenna and Dupont are going to want better training, competition and some decent NIL money. Will be very interesting to see how the CHL responds if that happens.

Why would they go to NCAA when they could be playing in the NHL?

Don't sleep on what Suniev is doing among the leaders in goals and points in the NCAA H-EAST conference this season at just 19. Massive uptick in a crucial season of his development. Very excited to see where he goes as a pro.

They have a reasonable expectation of jumping straight into the NHL at 18 when they do get drafted.

With that being said why wouldn't future young stars go the NCAA route? Better everything over there compared to the CHL.

Once they graduate high school I imagine quite a few of the top players who aren't good enough to make the NHL in their draft year will do just that.

We're talking about them jumping to the NCAA before they get drafted, not after.

Gridin definitely has adjusted to the QMJHL with potential for more:
October: 0.88pts/game
November: 1.39pts/game
December: 1.5pts/game
He now leads the team with 45 points in 35 games and has 6 more points than the 2nd player.
Tied for 3rd on the team with +15.
9th in QMJHL scoring.

Pretty tough for most 17-year-olds to meet the academic qualifications (even such as they are) for an NCAA scholarship. Players like Parekh, who graduate high school early, are pretty few and far between.

High pedigree kids like this usually get school done early so they can focus solely on hockey.
Next year is McKenna's draft year, and if he wants he could bolt to the NCAA. Hopefully he doesn't.
