He had 72 points in the first 55 games and finished with 89 points in that "poor" season.

I'm not sure if this is a case of Petterson being more of a 0.85 PPG player he has been for most of his career aside from a 125 game outlier stretch where he had like 165 points. Or if he should be producing more consistently at a higher threshold since has was very good as a 20 to 23 year old.

It doesn’t seem to be just that. He takes games off and shuts down under pressure on the ice as well. Tocchet went out of his way to say several guys on the roster do not consistently bring enough energy and emotion to the ice on game night. Not a stretch to assume Pettersson is one of those guys.

In his poor season, he had an exceptionally poor finish to that season. His playoffs was simply a continuation of his season. He had 17 points in his last 27 games.
