Hey Mel, just curious, since you're so active in the Alberta thread right now - what are you gonna do when AOC becomes president one day after this brief flirting period with right-wing populism / authoritarianism unravels and dies, exposing that brand of politics as untenable and ineffective? And a new age of progressive politics begins?
I look forward to your response in the American politics thread!

The size of the effect is important. It is important to recognize the difference between partial losses of benefit and total loses.
Does wages going up push prices up? Of course it does. Does it push prices up so high that we should not pursue wage increases at all? Of course not.
Tell me an economic policy you support and I could easily present you with a list of drawbacks. Without considering the scale of those drawbacks I could easily make it look like the policy should not be pursued.

Well i agree with all of that, so you must of missed the original point I was responding too, that minimum wage should be a living wage tied to inflation. I merely presented a consequence of doing something like that.
Goverment policy not just economic policy is a game of winners and losers, it's important to moderate that policy, there are things that are known to happen but you can't predict when they will happen (i.e. a pandemic, which was something scientists have been talking about for decades).
As an example, some of not all of the current Candian Goverments policies are fine but they lack the moderation, in some cases, big time restraint was required to help it least help lessen some of the unintended consequences it may produce or contribute too.
So if you still like to me to give an economic policy I support, I would be more than happy too but I believe you could easily present me with a list of drawbacks, because like i said, everything has winners or losers or pros and cons and effective goverments are ones that can show some restraint.

Sorry I’m flattered but not interested. I need a good communicator so it just wouldn’t work out. But don’t get down, I’m sure there’s lots of things about me that you’d also have boundaries about. Let’s just be friends and continue to individually work towards being the best versions of ourselves that we can be. And when you finally find that special someone, I’ll be very happy for you.

It is really static that all players in the market are incentivized to maximize their profitability. This isn't a bug, it's a feature and nobody should apologize for it.
So we're back to supply and demand being the useful things to discuss. (Shocking).
Unfortunately, policy (fiscal, monetary, and regulatory) has contributed to negatively impacting both the supply and the demand side with respect to most drivers of inflation. To the degree that greed has exposed inflation, it is a consequence of the drivers of inflation, not a cause of them.
If you're focused on corporate profits, then you're simply killing the messenger.

Explanations like this are why our world is so well and truly ####ed. What a collection of fetid tripe.

It’s been a couple years, but I believe that’s the brand of tripe BoLevi exclusively trades in.

I don’t think you would get much disagreement there. I assume you are advocating then for much stronger child family funding and free post secondary education and massive inheritance taxes to equalize the opportunity.
