A timely save or an untimely goal against can have an impact though. That said, I don't blame this one on Vladar. The entire team played poorly, goalie included.
But Vladar has an 888 save percentage this season and an 893 over his career. Statistically he is one of the worst goalies in the league over the last three seasons. Meanwhile the rookie is rocking a 914.
Unless the Flames think they can get something for Vladar I would prefer to see him in the AHL and have Wolf split starts with Cooley. Vladar has no future in Calgary, and at this point I don't know if there is a market for him.

I don’t think Wolf lets the first one. Gets square to the shooter faster against a guy with no confidence.

I thought Bean looked horribly mismatched on the Crouse goal. Yes, Weegar tipped it in but at that point it was emergency management.

Poor attention to detail in the third (and just about everything else?). Was winnable. Didn’t seem interested.

Flames seemed to have put all their emotional output in the game vs Vancouver. Came out flat and couldn't muster out the win.
Seemed like some of them missed calls rattled the Flames and they lost their focus instead of just playing the game.

Wolf has earned the net, should be in 3 of 4 from here on out if we are serious about playoffs
Regardless, this game wasn't on Vladar, Flames came out flat in the 4th

The first part of the third period really did them in. I like what Vlad has brought for most of the season but would have preferred they started Wolf instead. I get the rotation as they are trying to limit the load for Wolf but the playoff race is too close to not go with the lineup that gives you the best chance to win. Perhaps it wouldn’t have made a difference tonight but one key save could have secured at least a point.

Not sure why there Flames went full trap in this game. From the start they were playing 1-2-2 or 1-3-1 (hard to tell on TV) with zero forecheck pressure. Odd choice against such a powerhouse team.

Calling for guys to “eat popcorn” has to be one of the most over used fan demands alongside “bag skates”.
They need to get him going
And the effort is there
He needs to work through it and find his game not be punished

If he’s eating popcorn kuzmenko is in. That’s not better.

This was feeling like a sure loss. Flames were feeling too good about themselves. Refs didn't help

First was a huge meh, second was entertaining and third was very poor. Lots of passes into skates and lapses in concentration. My inlaws got me the tickets for Christmas and now I'm starting to think they don't like me.

He has 10 points on the season and is gifted pp time and the most ice of the forwards tonight (edit: second most after Backlund's last shift was added). He drags his entire line down.
I don't see effort from him. He's floating, not engaged in the corners and making lazy plays. He can't get his shots off and just looks completely uninterested. He absolutely should be a healthy scratch.

Flames didn't play that well overall, but that was also one of the worst refereed games I've seen all year. I've never seen a penalty shot for a player that got the puck about 10 feet in front of the net and wasn't even hooked or anything. Add that to the O'Brien/Kadri fiasco, as well as the referee literally causing interference on Backlund in the third and you just have to shake your head.
Still, you can't have a defensive lapse like that to start the third period and hope to win. It's a lesson to learn for a lot of the younger players.
Nothing bad to say about Vladar tonight. He really had no chance on most of the goals against. Made some big saves at times to keep his team in it.
I blame myself for this one. I called out Lawson Crouse in the GDT and he responded with 2 goals. That tip by Keller in the 3rd was ridiculous. I don't know how he knew where to put his stick between 3 player's skates and sticks. Just unreal.
Oh well. I didn't love the effort from the Flames but not every game is going to be a gem.

I believe Huska said that at some point one of the goalies would win the crease. We’re halfway through the season. Vladar hasn’t been horrible, he never gets any run support. But Wolf has been the more steady of the two. I think they should move to more of a 2/3 to 1/3 rotation. I think Wolf has earned it.

Kuzmenko makes it into the lineup and is forced to play 4th line grinder minutes which he is not suited to. In his last game he was placed in the Zary line in Pelletiers place...same issue as you have the black hole Sharangovic on the line. Put him with Pelletier and Zary for a few games, give him top PP minutes and I doubt he would be worse than Sharangovich has been lately.

Kuzmenko's game just isn't suited to the NHL.

Because he has zero awareness in the defensive zone. If you’re going to play like that, you better have extreme offensive skill to have any value. Which he doesn’t.

You might be right. Both of them were expected to generate offence for the Flames this year. Neither really are. If one of them could wake up it would make a huge difference.

Sharangovich has been incredibly disappointing thus far.
