Cheesecake Cafe
I can't believe that place is still around.
It was #### when it opened.

The consistently salty people behind the automotives counter at Canadian Tire. Doesn't even matter the location, just always grouchy with zero people skills. It almost feels like they grab a random mechanic from their garage with no customer service experience who hates people and force them to do it, because that's the vibe they give off.
I hope when those people have tech issues at home, they're forced to deal with some on the spectrum techy type who brusquely talks down to them if they can't understand the tech shop talk, because they deserve all of it.

Everyone had soup in a bread bowl in the 90s. Can you get it anywhere now?

Which, if I know the type, they process by having 8 Twix bars a day at work.

I don’t think so. It was the only thing I’d order from the Cheesecake Factory. I haven’t seen it many places since. I think some touristy place in San Francisco does one either chowder. Seems stupidly easy to do at home with a sourdough loaf and a can of Chunky.

Actual conversation I heard while waiting in line at the auto parts counter:
Customer: "I want to replace my brakes"
CT guy: "Ok, what model of vehicle do you have?"
Customer: "I don't know"
CT guy: "Ok, I need to know the year and model of the car to give you the right parts"
Customer: "It doesn't matter, I just need the parts"
CT guy: "Ok, parts are different for each kind of car and they're not interchangeable"
Customer: "What does that mean"
CT guy: "..."
Customer: "Can you show me how to change the brakes?"
CT guy: "..."
Customer walks away.

^ The customer in that situation is a bit of a useless idiot, but the CT guy fell short too. They could have easily overcome that by asking for the customer's registration or pink card once the customer said "I don't know" and entering the vehicle's VIN.

I mean, i disagree with that. Someone who doesn't know the make/model of their car has no business changing the brakes. And they'll be back and pissed off when the parts don't work (because they screwed it up). Better to not deal with them immediately.

Two places where you are guaranteed to be treated like ####
1. Auto parts stores/ garages.
2. Guitar stores.
The commonality is that you get into that line of work because you love the hobby, but you learn pretty quickly that the job ain't the hobby.

I would sooner assume someone with that little knowledge about their vehicle is getting someone else to do the work for them, rather than think "this guy is gonna do his own brakes and end up on /r/Justrolledintotheshop/". Probably a friend or family member said "you get the parts and I'll do it for you". Still a bad idea for a backyard mechanic to let an idiot source the parts for the job, admittedly, but CT is in the business of selling auto-parts, not saving morons from themselves.
Plus, it's Canadian Tire, you're assuming they even care that much.

You could have at least figured out what make/model and year your car is first.

Sure. But if we're going with the "they don't actually care" then expecting the parts guy to have them go get their pink card and look it up by VIN is expecting a lot. If someone didn't know the make and model of their car (I sort of don't understand how that's possible to be honest, I'm not a car guy at all but I looked at the thing before I bought it...) that isn't someone that's going to be delightful to deal with.

I told him I drive a car - the red kind, and the issue happened on a road when I was directly under the sun. What more do you require?!?
