Eichel was also injured, going through a questionable surgery, and there was a lot of uncertainty about him playing again.
I don't recall anyone stating Mangiapane and Dube were untouchable. There was a lot of hesitation, and rightfully so, about moving guys like Andersson. Largely due to Eichel's injury uncertainty.

I don't view him in the Eichel tier. I think he is a tier below and that is my issue with him. Can he drive play, and can he make his wingers better. Otherwise, we are stuck with a Lindholm 2.0
|
If the they trade for Pettersson and do not give up a 1st round pick they will have 4 first in the next two years. I think they will find their stars through the draft and through the existing group of players, not too worried about that.

That tells you they realized they knew they couldn't win without that premier #1C.
We need to use our picks to make our picks. We can gather more picks in later years, and once we have a core built use our picks for trades.
|
An artificial disc replacement for someone who plays a physical contact sport, could end a career. There's about a 10% chance those surgeries don't work. Then there's a significant chance the artificial disk ends up in a place it's easily dislodged. This was not a minor surgery.

You think they will trade him without a 1st coming back? If its just roster players and a throw in prospect sign me up.

Those picks likely become mid to late round picks. The team then likely relies on Huberdeau, Wolf, and Pettersson to be the stars. Then the team needs to fill out the depth with their current and future prospects, which isn't all that unlikely. A good chance at least a couple of the young guys develop into second pairing 60 point forward types.
Then the Flames hit the UFA market, and they have a lot of cap space.
A Pettersson acquisition definitely results in a change of course away from a rebuild and towards immediately competing.
Your probably looking at a forward with Huberdeau, Kadri, Pettersson, Zary, Coronato, Pelletier, and a couple of other prospects and UFAs filing out the top 9. Maybe 1-2 of Zary, Pelletier, and Coronato go the other way?

I don’t see Vancouver trading their franchise player to a division rival. I can see the Flames having some strong interest in a 26 year old C signed for 7 more years. I do think the Rangers and Sabres make a ton of sense as trading partners who have pieces and are desperate for a shakeup and are also in the East.

So, let's assume they trade for Pettersson and not give up any first round picks.
With 4 picks in the next two years, you expect them to draft some elite players, when we already now picks this year are quite high. No reason to expect the 2026 picks to be anything else.
Of course, I cannot imagine any trade of Pettersson to the Flames, much less one without a first round pick involved.

For whatever reason, I’ve noticed that over the past couple of days the “crazy, big pop up” ads haven’t been….. popping up
Thank you
Anyway, you’re right, back to the rumours

Relax man, it’s not an ad issue, it’s a UX issue related to certain ads that are basically breaking the site and requiring a refresh of the page.

I waffle back and forth about what the best path forward for Vancouver is.
Clearly there is some discord in the room and most of the smoke is about Miller vs Petterson.
Trading Miller makes better long term sense, since Petterson is much younger. That said, Miller's trade return would be tiny comparative to Petterson's given his age and cap hit.

I would agree but if they trade him then they don't think he is a franchise guy. If Andersson had more term on his contract then I think that would be a pretty compelling swap for them as a base.

I'm pretty relaxed.
But annoyed with someone baiting me on ads in a rumour section.
If it was worded as a tech issue and done in the right place maybe it wouldn't have hit a nerve.

Andersson and a pick or B level prospect would be a pretty lopsided trade.

Wasn't baiting you, or trying hit your nerve sorry. You said you don't read the other parts of the site.

Less than a year ago they gave him an almost $93M contract and made him one of the highest paid players in the league so for a period of time they definitely thought he was a franchise guy. Obviously Hughes is their true franchise player but Pettersson was their franchise forward.
I don’t disagree on Andersson so what about Weegar? I could see the Canucks having strong interest in Weegar straight up or a Weegar/Kadri combo for Pettersson and a cap dump like Myers. I don’t love it for Calgary but could see why Vancouver makes that deal as both Weegar and Kadri seem to fit the Tochett mold and would be guys that seemingly would fit in with Miller?
The Flames would hope they can keep Andersson long term if they made this deal and adding a superstar Swede to the roster might be enough to do it?
