That is correct but I wasn't trying to suggest an asteriod would make Earth less hospitable than Mars. But i am not sure there are degrees of hospitability? It either is or it isn't and one factor is all it takes.

Yellowstone will erupt
An asteriod will hit the earth.
Those two things alone make our little co2 problem look like a drop in the bucket.
There isn't much we can do about it.

The funny part is that fixing CO2 on Earth is the really easy problem compared to surviving on Mars. That's where these ideas just fall apart. If we can't even control one gas on Earth, what hope do we have on Mars?
Someday humanity might become multi-planetary, but the smart move would be to start on the Moon, and then work towards the really hard challenges of Mars. We are so far from Mars even being in the conversation for humanity that any talk of it can be dismissed as dumb.
Reminder, Musk is a serial liar that tends not to deliver on his big ideas. In 2011 he said he'd put a person on Mars in 10 years. He hasn't even got a rocket out of LOE yet, so maybe pump the breaks on these Mars plans he's lying about to get Government dollars.
FSD should be ready by 2017, too. Car will drive itself across the country without intervention. Personally I can't wait for 2017 to finally get here.
Once you realize who Musk is and how he operates, you start to see the size of his grifts. He's spent his entire business life lying to get investors and government funds. For some reason, silly people still believe the things he says.

Agreed about fixing the CO2 issue that is easy, just takes time.

Sure but Mars has and abundance of resources that the moon doesn't that are important for an industrial society.

Now you just talking crazy. I wouldn't exactly call that lying, it's not unsual for business targets not to be reached for a variety of different reasons. No matter how smart or prepared you are, sometimes things don't work out they way you wanted them. Pandemic also didn't help amongst probably a lot of other things. Holy crap your threshold is high

OK, first off, resources on Mars mean nothing to us. There is no fathomable way it's cheaper to go to Mars, get them ,and bring them back than to use what we have. Mining an Asteroid would make a lot more sense. This is silly "I heard it on a podcast" level stuff. Think it through.
Now read this and come back and tell me this is an honest man. Ready any biography of him. It's no secret how he operates, it's just that many people are ignorant of it. Don't be a sucker. That's why he's the richest man on Earth. Too many ####ing suckers out there.
https://sethabramson.substack.com/p/...his-biographer
This is a collection of past posts, but assembled like this is pretty easy to see the pattern of lies that got him where he is, starting with his illegal immigration(awkward!).

Well there are plenty of differences between him and I, and believe me, I’m completely fine with that. The only thing he’s looking at for the longer term is how to get that sweet taxpayer money. Incidentally, I would’ve expected you to agree with me on that issue.

Oh boy. Not to bring them back bro, now you are sinking fast. Mars has the resources for an industrial society for Mars.

Ok, so the point of gong to Mars is that it has resources that can be used on Mars. ####ing brilliant. Annnyway.
I'm always amazed when peopel choose to live in ignorance when there are multiple sources, including Musk himself, for a lot of this info. I man, if you want to continue to be an uneducated ignoramus, well that's your prerogative. But it's not my flaw. Maybe you can generate yourself an AI summary you might believe?

Nah Pickles!, i choose to live in reality and i realize that no one is perfect and the large majority of people are looking out for their own interests.
You seem to have an unrealistic standard, hope you don't hold yourself to that standard.
But the fact remains is Musk's benefit to society rating (if such a thing did exist) is a trillion times greater than you or mine. You choose the side of hate and I don't.
Humans will become interplantary species that is just the natural progression..unless of course asteroid, super volcano, gamma ray burst gets us first.
Just like the first person to conceive of the modern airplane, Sir George Cayley in 1799 wasnt the first person to accomplish building one. People thought he was crazy and chose the side of hate.
haters gonna hate i guess

I asked Pepsi to clarify two simple things that he posted.
What has been grifted?
What source do you have for these other intelligent jurisdictions looking into nuclear and renewables for this type of project?
I understand he can’t back up his own statement. I don’t have to try and prove his point for him.

Oh, see, I thought you were asking because you were interested. And if you were interested, then it would take you almost no effort to find the information yourself (and much more than the any single article I linked you to). With one simple google you could’ve found all the information you were asking for and could’ve had enough reading to go the whole afternoon.
But you were hoping I would “prove” it to you? Yeah, sorry man, I can’t think of anyone who takes you seriously enough to actually feel the need to “prove” anything to you. But it’s funny you think of yourself that way.

Sounds like O’Leary should be pitching this AI data centre on Mars.
-130 degree overnights will make cooling a snap, and there’s the resources needed for the multiple GW of generation to power it.

Ok MelBridgeman. I’m sure there are many MelBridgemans with the exact same view points and writing style, so it’s probably someone else.

It’s more fun knowing how easily you could get the answer you pretended to be interested in but watching you desperately try to turn this into a “win” for yourself.
Probably don’t get many, huh?
