I would love Pettersson on this team - kid has high end skill and vision, and he is surprisingly strong on pucks too.

It would just cost too much, especially with a rival tax. This would be the perfect move to make in the last stages of a rebuild - or at least much further along. I like Zary's chances at ending up as a good #2C, but I would prefer more competition organizationally there first. Flames need more difference makers in the organization coming through before making this deal.

Still, I can't say I would really hate it (depending on the cost). Pettersson isn't old, and he is a natural centre with elite vision/playmaking while also having a lethal shot. Get him feeling comfortable again - and Calgary's locker room could probably do that well - and you probably have your legitimately good enough #1C that you can win with. The only cons for me is the acquisition cost, especially this early into this rebuild where I feel more high-end players need to be drafted first.

Exactly. He also kinda looks like (from the outside looking in, and not knowing anything really) a Dbag. Looks like he has a bit of an attitude problem.

I would definitely take him. But would'nt want to give up what it would cost to get him. If you were moving heaven and earth it wouldn't be for him. Just my opinion.

Just for fun, what about pulling a Philly with Mike Richards and Jeff Carter and pick neither? Hockey trades, not rebuilding trades.

Miller who thrive under the system deployed in Calgary. That is the kind of centre that could fit here, just not age wise. Pettersson would be lucky to get 70 points here. Pass.

Flames system is gonna evolve with more talent
I don't expect the Flames to get him but this is a Jumbo Joe, Eichel, moment
Teams are gonna wish they paid up IMO

Has there ever been an example where a team purposely avoided trading a star within the division or conference just to have the other team immediately flip them back to the same division or conference?

It sounds like the kind of thing that could erode trust among their peers.

Mike Hoffman?

I think he went from Ottawa to San Jose and then to Florida.

What would the Canucks ask for? I'm guessing Zary, Andersson, pick for Pettersson + prospect. They get a young already solid C back, a very good defenceman that they sorely need and a pick (not sure what they'd ask for) for giving up the by far best player in the trade who admittedly appears to be a bit soft.

Petterson wouldn't be relied upon for leadership in CGY, he'd be freed up mentally just to go do his thing.

Obviously there's an issue in Vancouver and heads are butting. It's not a reason to not pursue Petterson. New threads and a fresh start would reignite the player IMO.

Pettersons too good of a player for his current performance to persist. I'm saying this as someone who's not entirely enamoured with Petterson in the first place. It's like McDavid and Draisaitl, I hate them but I could never deny their skillset. Petterson would be , offensively a pretty big acquisition for the Flames.

Does Vancouver dance with us again on a big ticket player like Petterson? Who knows. I'd like to say they wouldn't but that depends on what CGY is willing to part with.

If they're on the playoff train, those extra 1st round picks become expendable and you could make the argument that Petterson is just barely young enough to perform for the majority of his new deal.

Centers are hard to acquire. Top line caliber players doubly so, there's always going to be a higher cost. The Flames certainly aren't positioned to draft one this year (for now and most likely at all) so you have to go and try and trade for one. If the objective in the roster build is a top line or 2nd line C, then Petterson sits right at the top of the list of what's out there. No debate about that.

Rangers would be a good fit I think. Trochek/Zibanejad, Miller + pick for Pettersson... Gives Canucks a good defensive forward, and a D that they need.

Former? He's no listed on the Flames website anymore. Pierre-Paul Lamoureux was made pro scout in October. It would be incredibly unprofessional for a member of one teams hockey operations to comment on two players from another organization if he was still with us.

Andersson half retained and whatever first we get this year (Top ten protected) and a prospect not named Parekh.

They get a top pairing D man and a ton of cap space.

Vancouver will find it difficult to win a Petterson trade, and they'd have to make it before he gets his NMC this off-season.

After reading about the drama on Canucks forums it sounds like a guy like Backlund would be the best mentor to extract the best out of Pettersson. I’m a Flames fan #1, but living in Vancouver I watch a lot of Canucks games too and Pettersson has that same Jedi elite hockey IQ that Johnny Hockey used to blow everyone’s minds. But he’s a responsible center capable of matching other teams top line and has ok size. He’s not perfect, has a way of looking less engaged, and is on a massive contract. If Conroy can pry Pettersson out of Vancouver with a quantity vs quality package I’d support it.

Zary + 1st + Morin.

Doesn't seem like a great fit for us.

I could see alot of teams being interested though.
No thanks, Zary should be untouchable. Buffalo got a then 15-20 goal winger, a young center who couldn't make the Vegas lineup and a 1st for Eichel and a 3rd.

Equivalency of Sharangovich, Kerins and a late 1st

Probably more like Coronato (Tuch), Honzek (Krebs) and a 1st.
