I would actually be interested to see an objective breakdown of the pros and cons if Canada and the U.S. unified from both country's perspectives.
There are several different types of unions that stop short of annexation. For example, Scotland is unified with England in the United Kingdom, but they are not annexed by England and have their own parliament and law making abilities. Or the EU example as also pointed out where countries maintain their sovereignty buy unify on some policies.
I am not saying I would be in favour of a Canadian-American union, but I think the discussion is interesting anyway.
The biggest issue with any union with the Americans is that we'd be the small fry so completely that we'd never get a voice.
Canada becoming a group of new states (or even 1 new state) would be a complete non-starter because we'd all vote for the Dems. That would likely tip control of both the house and senate - no way the Republicans are interested in that.

Who said they'd give us voting rights?
Maybe all of Canada would get 1 electoral collage vote. Trump would take our resources, control the Northern front, and use Canada like one of his side chicks.

Yeah. We couldn't be a state because the votes we'd be entitled to would swing the electoral college hugely left. Multiple states would make it an even bigger swing.
But why would we ever agree to anything else? The vast majority of Canadians wouldn't want to join the US, there's no way people would accept joining as a territory without representation.
That just leaves them invading and taking over. Which I suppose is possible give the size of the military and instability of the commander in chief, but doesn't seem very interesting to discuss.
I agree. I already said Conservatives will win no matter who is their leader. PP isn’t Prime Minister material though. He did his job, but not really interested in him leading the country, no matter how bad the other parties might be. Need a new presence there. Must be somebody in the party that are up to the task, just not anybody that ran in the last leadership race though. Preferably somebody without convoy or anti-vax baggage or ever used the word “woke” in public.
Maybe not. But nobody worthy of the position goes into politics. Because it’s a pure crapshow. Why would anyone want to deal with it and make less money than they could in the private sector.

You’d need at least 4 states to give Canada a voice BC, then Alberta, Sask, Man, plus territories together, Ontario, Quebec. Martimes thrown into either Ontario or their own. That’s 8-2 or 6-2 if you don’t give the maratimes their own state for the Dems. Just not happening.

BC, AB and Sask are leaving at some point. It’s inevitable.
It’s actually kind of hilarious and alarming at the same time how much a couple of stupid classic Trump goadings have caused people this much brain damage.
This is literally what the guy lives for. His dumb opponents freaking out and using it to attack every fiber of his being and beating it to death when it was just a dumb joke. And his even dumber supporters thinking he’s serious and trying to actually make a case for it because they have no ability to think and realize that he’s literally just trolling.

I kinda agree with this, and it seems that he just keeps doing crazier things to see how far he can push it and still keep his followers.

Why?
A catalyst could be Quebec leaving first triggering a crisis or a significant break up of the US. In the absense of those crisis’s the west would never leave on their own. It wouldn’t make sense to become a smaller nation even with more resources per captia.
