Congrats Latvia!
I'm loving the underdog stories of this year's tournament. The Khazaks making some noise, Latvia doing the things they've done. It's been fun to cheer for these kids.

Weird to have a meaningless overtime now.

Not sure I love Germany's decision to pull the goalie on the PP there...Latvia could take no risk shots at the empty net and it immediately backfired.
I give my team the chance to score 5-4 in the last minute of that PP

Or maybe the last 15 to 20 seconds of the PP. 1 minute was too much.

Mateiko looking like a sneaky good third rounder by the caps. They've got a ton of players in this tournament, and that doesnt even include Cristall

This Canada team has been tough to watch. They are not a team, but a collection of individuals. No wonder they're struggling against pretty much everyone else.
Seems like everyone on the ice is just winging it, theres no structure, no real plan of attack, even passing the puck around seems too hard for them. I think thats a coaching thing. This team is playing like its an all-star event.
I expect they'll get their heads caved in tonight unfortunately.

I enjoy the hockey and getting to see the next crop of NHL prospects. How many Latvian players are going to make the NHL? For many of the players on most teams, this is the peak of their playing careers. I was stoked to see Latvia pull of the miracle, it will be a highlight of many players lives, let alone hockey careers. I also think it helps grow the game in other smaller markets which is only beneficial in the long term.

Not unpopular at all. I cheer for Flames prospects, regardless of what team they're on, and underdogs.
The fact of the matter is that Canada goes into this tournament as favourites every year, if nothing else I want every other team to make them earn it.

Yeah, odd coaching decision because, as you said it gives the opponent 'no risk' shots at the empty net, but also...it crowds the offensive zone, you want space to make your opponents have to move to defend and tire them out, if you crowd the space it becomes more about stickwork.

I agree with your take on them playing like individuals.
I wouldn’t sell them short against the US though. They have looked very beatable.

I'm predicting a 7-6 barnburner tonight. But with the Americans winning it.

The prevailing logic would say this team was constructed to beat the Americans.
Let's see if that happens tonight.
