Nah, he’s resigning and proroguing parliament. It could well be a case of “be careful about what you wish for” for the CPC. They wanted Trudeau to stick around and get slaughtered, but instead he resigns and they have to deal with someone new. Granted, that’s not going to cost them the election, but it could give the Liberals more life depending on who they have as leader.

Trudeau appointed the biggest buffoon in the Liberal party to be finance minister, so I doubt anyone else than a bubbling moron is going to be the next 'interim' leader of the party.

At this point there is pretty much nothing the Liberals can do to avoid burning the party to the ground other than completely admitting defeat and calling an election as soon as possible. The only way forward is the next election after this one.

A month ago the Liberals were down to 20-30 seats, now they're down to 6, at which point they will lose official party status. Hard to comprehend just how pissed off Canadians are right now. But hey 'careful what you wish for.'

The NDP on the other hand could turn their moron of a leader and whoever takes over might get a few seats to bring them into official opposition status.

But given the egos of the people involved, all not likely to happen.

Only they're not down to six. That's not how things work at all, and you're well aware that one poll and projection doesn't mean that is how the election would play out even it were held today. Campaigns matter, and there is still a lot that can happen before we start doling out seats.

Is the NDP leader also a “bubbling” moron or is he just the regular type and it’s just the future (unknown) Liberal leader that is particularly bubbling?

What do you have against Dominic LeBlanc? From everything I've heard he's a very capable minister, and has plenty of experience. I don't think I've read a bad word about him. What specifically is wrong with him?

Do we have any laws on seditious traitors in Canada? You know, the type where the punishment is a long walk across Hudson's Bay in your underwear?

Too bad we did not listen to him and invest in crypto when he said that. Would be a pretty tidy gain in the portfolio I imagine.

The point being is that the polls are continually getting worse.

Yes, I know they don't mean anything, but at this point you have to be Trudeau-esqe blind to not see that anything he does is meant with complete disdain from the Canadian people.

Prolonging parliament is only going to make it worse.

There is no way forward for the Liberal Party with Trudeau as the leader. But because he has held on so long, he is going to take down the entire party with him. How many Liberal MPs are going to lose their seats because of his refusal to resign and let the party move on?

Long-time Trudeau friend and 'trusted' ally.

Makes him a moron.

Oh, and lets not forget, trusted 'friend' of the Irving family.

Broke ethics laws giving a lucrative fishing license to his wifes cousin during his time as minister of fisheries

He wreaks of the same egotistical smugness as his leader and close friend

He is 100% complicit in much of the corruption seizing our government and exactly what we should be looking to cut out.

Trudeaus Childhood baby sitter and it looks like maybe that never ended, now they just call him the government "Fixer"

OK, just read about that, and he graciously accepted the findings, that also said there was no benefit as well. This was more an oversight on his part, and a mistake, but nothing deliberate or egregious.

This is how I'd like politicians to respond when they make a mistake.

If you want to see what it looks like when politicians use their power to provide preferential treatment, contracts, and just plain cash to their buddies, maybe check out the AB politics thread one day. Understanding how serious you take ethics, I'd get the shock you may come under, and you have my sympathies.

I stopped wading into that cesspool of a thread a long time ago, If you care to, PM me a synopsis of what I missed and I will happily read it.

Well, one is based on substantial, meaningful things like policy and actions. The other is based on “I don’t like his friend.”

The difference between a real gripe and the kind you find amongst teenage girls in junior high.

Preston Manning: With nationalism in decline, who will stand on guard for Canada?

Man who makes life mission tearing Canada apart by creating regionalism and fostering division muses confusedly about why national unity is in decline. Did this just slide in as the most oblivious opinion piece of 2024?

Bonkers. It's you. You are the problem.

Give me a break Pepsi, You and many others have repeatedly attacked PP for being unlikable, Punchable, whiny, wiener , joke, etc... these are you issues not policy driven issues. You dont like his policy or approach to policy fine, I get that. However, in this context we are talking as a person not a politician just as the context of Leblanc.

You dont have to like PP, no problem there, but dont sit on your side and call out the other for doing the same thing you have been doing for years.
