Everything you mention was locked in when he decided to do what he did. Whatever he was going through, it's irrelevant. Society, and those kids, are better off with that piece of human excrement gone.

This guy studied in the same Masters program I did, but started 4 months before me. I never met the guy or took a class with him, but it's spooky to see that his Discord user in the class server is still being shown as online

His classmates must be freaking out

Yup that’s the one. He killed the GF in her Applewood apartment a few days before.

I remember this. We live down the street and my wife was freaked out. Never saw that many police cars in our neighbourhood before and had no idea what was happening.

Well... It sounds like it's too late anyways.

It's not to say I thought things through for such an incomprehensible situation. But with kids involved, perhaps maybe I was hoping his life not immediately be considered worthless for the kids sake?

Doesn't matter now. He's gone from their lives too.

I don’t think you were wrong in thinking so. People rush to clap for his death, but without really knowing the why of it, it’s hard to know if there was anything to be helped there.

It’s not like his small children are going to take any comfort in knowing he killed himself, or even just knowing he’s dead too. Now or for the rest of their lives. But it sure makes strangers happy, so they’ll call it a win.

I wouldn't say I'm happy. But growing up with a father who murdered your mother and grandfather likely isn't a great life either.
Was he a victim who didn't get the mental health support he needed and it resulted in tragedy? Possibly.

Was he an abusive a****** who put on a good show for the public and finally actually killed his wife? Also possible.

We need better mental health supports AND better support for victims of domestic violence and at this point, we really don't know which situation is the case here. Possibly both.

Not that we should expect it from our current gang of paste eating elected officials, who imagine mental health treatment can be had by the dude raping your children if you confess hard enough to them. Just pray some more, god will take care of you.

Just to be clear, Alberta health (recovery Alberta) has several free services that can be utilized.
403-266-4357 (Distress Centre - request Mental Health Crisis Triage)
https://www.albertahealthservices.ca...page11443.aspx
several levels of support both emergency and non emergency if required. Dont be afraid to ask.

Seems a horrible situation for the children regardless. They lose both parents, or the father is in prison for 10 years thanks to our lovely justice system and then what? Never has contact with them? Explains to them why he killed their mother?

No, a therapist should be as a GP is. Someone you can go to when needed for mental health support, and not worry if you can afford it. They know you, your history, and can far more effectively help that way.

Long term supports can be accessed thru these resources as well as crisis interventions.
