Taking a while to get to 5000

He came close, but couldn't quite shake off the Oiler stink.
It claims yet another.
Edit - I remember Edmonton RACING to the podium to draft him. Didn't even have a namebar ready, clearly didn't think he'd be there. Blew up whatever draft board they had thinking they got a steal.
Dumbest move that day until Vancouver hit the stage.

He'll be pulling RVs back in Finland.

I had no idea he was still in the NHL.

Canadian The Sports Network expert Craig Button compared Puljujärvi to Blake Wheeler, but has since come to consider him more of a Jarome Iginla-like player.[71] Puljujärvi himself has compared his own playing style to that of Evgeni Malkin.[72]

Avs should claim him and just play 6 Finnish forwards at all times.

3G, 8P in 21GP, which is a 25P pace.

I always thought he would be a good pickup for CGY, but I'm over it.
That 2016 draft with the junior Finish team sure didn't play out as advertised. Laine, Puljujarvi, and Joulevi getting picked in the top 5! The perfect storm to get a Tkachuk.

He only played in 1 out of the last 15 games since PIT traded for Tomasino, essentially handing him Puljujarvi's spot.

Kevin Hayes also firmly in the Pens doghouse too. Has been the other frequent healthy scratch for the last while.

If I recall correctly, he was the "most tools + least put together" option of the top prospects. Pretty much the opposite of who the Oilers should have picked. But thankfully they are too arrogant to recognize that development is an organization weakness.
Really sucks for Puljijarvi though. I would have loved to see the player he could have become with proper support. I thought I heard that the Oilers did not even bother to hire a translator to help him, wasting development time as he struggled to learn english.
Man, looking back at those 2016 top picks with hindsight is wild.

I’ll be honest, in his draft year I was pretty sold on him.
He looked dangerous quite often and if I recall correctly did quite well with Laine at the WJ’s that year.
Edmonton definitely didn’t do him any favors.

Flames could take him and upgrade on Sharkbait.... Or Kuzmenko or Dueher. There's a place for a player like him in CGY.
